Layers of mismatched pillows and unorganized vintage books I think are less intimidating as a guest than a stark white room with white linens. This is a guest room done by Wary Meyers in Portland, Maine.

I have to admit that I generally prefer white walls, but this is amazing! I love the wallpaper (and the pillows, especially combined with that lamp). looks like something you might see on this site: http://www.5qm.de/index-en.html
Really charming, cozy and seemingly effortless! Not my usual style, but I'd love to spend a couple of days in this guest room!
Lovlovlovely! Amazing! Inspiring! Could I call it "urban colonnial"?
However it's fit only for a place with no earthquake history...
Love it! I really like the relaxed cozy grandmothery vibe. I wanna take a nap in there.
Beautiful. Very welcoming.
I looked at it and thought, "Anthropologie," then looked into the Wary Meyers site and found out I was pretty much right.
My grandma-style guest room (that I have yet to remodel) might benefit from the addition of some shelves around the ceiling like this. I know the rest of my bookcases would benefit from having a place to pack 'em in like this.
Very Edwardian....I love it.
I have similar shelving to hold my books, but not over top of my bed. Reason being, as sturdy as my shelves are (and I put them in the studs like a good girl). Sometimes things fall off shelves. If the house shakes for some reason, if someone slams a door, if an earthquake happens and I'm asleep i sure don't want a face full of hardback covered books.
The room does look cozy, though I'd prefer it sans framed pictures on the wall. It's just a little too cluttered with them in there on top of the busy wall paper, tons of pillows, and the million books. As the pictures just seem a bit random (I suppose that's supposed to be part of their charm), they're crammed in where they barely fit, they're doesn't seem to be a consideration for how they look together so long as they cover the walls, and after all of that covering such neat wallpaper... it stops feeling cozy and starts to feel cluttered.
I say nix the pics and you're golden.
oops... some spelling errors in my post. "they're doesn't seem to be a consideration for" should be 'there doesn't seem'.
Not my taste or style either but I definitely do appreciate the creativity of this person! They are so creative, and getting away with combining all those patterns and tight utilisation of space. Very busy picture which keeps the viewer interested. You're great. It has an oriental feel to it too with that bedspread.
