This months travel escape theme got me thinking about what elements in the home can convey the feeling of being on vacation. Color is the number one element in a room that can influence my mindset and white is one of my favorites.
Rooms filled with summer white that are light, airy, and flooded with warm outdoor light make me feel like I could be on the beach in Santorini, or in a guest house on the Cape. These rooms are inviting and bold; a difficult task to accomplish!

I have to say the eaves and painted white wood evoke a summery feeling. The rest is just...white...and could be anywhere, anytime in any suburban setting. But, I do love all white and am heading that way soon, in my new digs...with pops of color, of course. With few windows in my new space I need all the reflected light I can get. It will be a refreshing change. I wouldn't mind creating a summery feeling for all year. Brightens up winter, too.
Interesting how it doesn't look sterile and instead looks dreamy. I guess that's due to the presence of so much wood.
PS And that the wood is rustic.
OMG to the subway tiled shower including ceiling. I'm in love.
I love the white, it is so peaceful and clean. My question is...is it too feminine? Would a guy be okay with this decor?
My daughter is moving into a new apartment in the fall and she wants the same feel as these rooms. She wants a white, beachy vibe. Any suggestions on how to make it vacationy/summery and not tacky?
I don't know about guys in general but mine would like this look in a room or two. I hadn't even thought that it was feminine.
I love every one of these rooms. And, yet, I have not a single white room in my house.
Hmmmmmm.
@crollett345-- I really like the idea of filling up a glass jar with shells. I have this from Crate & Barrel which I layered with sand and sea shells. http://www.crateandbarrel.com/decorating-and-accessories/vases/delfina-short-covered-jar/s502548
I also found a vintage looking piece of decor that definitely doesn't look tacky in my guestroom: http://www.greatusefulstuff.com/CNI-Design-S-3-Blue-Boxes-With-Stand-Coastal-Surf-p/4003-cw2620-3.htm I put potpurri in the boxes to make the room smell fresh
Hope this helps and good luck!

@arena 300, PS My guy added that distressed wood isn't his style, but I don't see that as a masculine-feminine thing. Also, he thought the bath ceiling tile was very interesting. He's always preferred white walls and ceilings for every room.
@arena 300, PPS His favorites were the bath and kitchen, and cottage isn't his style, so maybe most other guys don't go for cottage, I don't know. Hope this helps.
Last picture: dream bathroom. Absolute perfection.
we moved in a all white home, with white walls and white stone floor in every (yes, every) room - and most of our furniture from our old home is either white or in light birch. the lack of color is really depressing after a while, i tried to make a quick change by hanging colorful art and adding colorful textiles, but i will have to paint the walls soon. it is is too much!
maybe it's because its one large room - living room/dining room/kitchen in one, with no walls. with colors i could seperate the areas a bit...
