Who doesn't love built-in furniture? Whether it's shelving on walls, around the fireplace, under the stairs, a desk, or anything tucked into odd corners or low spaces — there's no denying that they're money and space saving charmers.

Like them all. LOVE #10
I just had a built-in window seat installed in my sunroom. We've gained excellent storage and seating.
I really love numbers 1, 7, and 9 in the images above.
Built-ins make my heart go pitter patter. I love everything about the room in photo #6!
Too bad you guys didn't use a more current photo for #2 ... Sherry & John's office has vastly improved since that photo!!! But those built-ins I am definitely envious of and have been especially since they painted inside so nice and dark!!!
Also ... the third from last photo, I am not sure what is to envy about that "built-in" ... the drawers are on rollers, so not "built-in" and the desk looks like a hollow-core door attached to the wall acting as a desk ... I am not envious LOL.
The window seat is pretty sweet too!
Sitting here for 10 minutes trying to figure out what is going on above the fireplace in the lead pic.
My boyfriend just applied for a huge, 2-bedroom (the ad said 3-bedroom but they've mistaken a dining room for a bedroom) Victorian apartment in Seattle. Not only does it have a separate pantry the size of most kitchens I've had in this city, but there are floor to ceiling built-in cupboards and shelves with a counter top at the end of a long entryway hall. I think it would be an excellent place to display framed photos and knick knacks. However, I'd like to use a good part of it as a bar. All the extra space the built-ins provide in this place is a little overwhelming. Certainly a first for me!
This makes me lust after bookshelves more than ever.
Lots to love here. Whenever I moved into a new apartment, some strange old built-in was always a factor in renting the place. I always wanted the ironing board that popped out of the wall, like the one Scarlett Johannsen had in her "Ghost World" apartment, maybe someday I'll have one built in.
A big YES to the well built loft beds.
I was able to create the built in look on an Ikea budget!

I like the look of floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelves filled with books, but after spending a year in an apartment with a wall of semi-built-in-shelves, I realized I end up with the problem of needing to "fill" them. This relates to the recent post of getting rid of stuff/keeping only what you need/use. I want to sell/donate books that I never reread, but then what's going to go in these built-ins? I don't like knick-knacks, there's no light for growing plants, I don't have a ton of art and don't love the look of book-less shelves anyway...
So, good for photos, bad for me and my "get rid of stuff" tendencies.
Finding a great carpenter is one of the best things you can do for your house. After buying bookcases and tv stands that never really worked, I had a wall of floor to 12 ft ceiling shelves put in. I designed them myself and had them built. The price wasn't bad at all and they add so much to my home-both its appearance and value.
those little bunk beds are precious. i would've loved them as a kid. i would love them now!
Love the built in by @young house love!
Like them all except for #2. It's all merchandizing...like tchotchkes gone wild.
#1, on the other hand, is fairly stunning. Even though there are tchotchkes aplenty, they look nice when incorporated with more functional items. I think bookshelves should have purpose without looking too purposeful, and #1 does that nicely.
