- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- A peaceful and calm Zen retreat ! We love the minimalist look that we were going after for the bedroom. Its a white on white palette with textures in window treatments, bedding ,a neutral colored wall art and a pop of color in the form of a throw. There is no patterns play here. The little Zen garden, a DIY project incorporating my collection of sand and pebbles from travels around the world adds a touch of calm. The main focus of the room was to bring the outdoors in.With all the neutral colors and textures the only colors you will see in this room are the changing colors of the seasons! All in all, its a space to unwind, relax and rejuvenate. Wish I had pictures of the room taken in fall and summer!
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- I believe a bedroom should be a calm and soothing space. Choose a style of bed and make it the main focus of the bedroom. Doing away with unnecessary clutter is always easy on the eyes and the soul! Choose a neutral bedding so you can switch accessories with the changing seasons. Its always nice to add a personal and unique touch to a space instead of getting some run of the mill store bought artwork. You don't have to spend a lot. For instance the artwork in this room was a DIY project,a table cloth stretched over an existing frame! You can never go wrong with a simple, clean lined , clutter free space!
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- Connecting with nature! With a huge bay window and a private deck, its a perfect space to relax ,read and enjoy the seasons!

My Bedroom Retreat
I love your Zen garden in the bedroom. This is something I could never do since I live with a cat!
It does look peaceful! I have a question about the bed--it's something I've been curious about as I've see various version of beds with "surrounds" or platform types of things around them... Is getting in and out of bed any more awkward than if the bed had no such surround? Seems that having to clear several extra inches to a foot from the edge to the mattress could toy with center of gravity. What's your experience?
ps: I've tried beds with wood platforms around them and seem to pretty consistently bang my shins against the edge when crawling into bed. This may speak more to my own clumsiness, however!
Can you tell us about the upright pieces on the bed?
We haven't had any issues with the platform surround. This is due to the fact that the platform is covered in leather which makes it more comfortable to get in and out, secondly the mattress and the bed are almost the same level which helps avoid the awkward situation of banging your shin against the platform. You might want to consider these features if you want to invest in a platform bed...
The upright pieces are optional headboards that you can purchase along with the bed. They are moveable and can be put anywhere along the four sides of the bed which we think is awesome! For a more conservative look you can place both together to look like a headboard.
I like the bed and saw the above comment, but why would you have the upright pieces as they are? Throwing me off why the one is at the foot of the bed.
I'm not sure if I feel comfortable in this space. I sparce walls, and harsh contrasts of the blacks, whites, and reds prove to be the opposite of the word retreat.....for me that is. But thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.
You don't want to be the owner of the world's most serene litter box?
That bed is fantastic.
Not my style at all but so incredibly unique for a bedroom. Very zen and calming (and clean!).
I actually love that bed, and I'm in the market for a new bed right now. Where did you get it?
The bed is from Dania
I love the minimalist approach. It's beautiful, but I could never do it. I do have to say those headboard things are awkward to me. I actually understand why you chose to put them where they are, but I think it might be better to just take them off.
The bay windows are just amazing! I love how you have stayed true to your own minimalist approach. I couldn't live with it but props to you!
One of my favorites. I like where the headboards are ~ different looking, perfect for reading and gazing outdoors.
This is beautiful. Please though - stop saying Zen.
minimal is right! I love your photo of the sand and rake- zen but with personality :)
Awesome..good job..way to go gal..good luck.
