But... $42!?

Take the Ashley book of knots out of the library and make one yourself for the price of a length of rope at the hardware store.

$42! Puh-lease?

This is SO a DIY project since it's easy to look up knot instructions on the web. Then, 1/4" jute rope is only 20 to 40 CENTS a foot, so even if this took 20 feet of rope to make it would cost $8 before markup.

I don't even want to think about what kind of profit they are making, but if I can stop one person from being taken for a ride, then I did my good thing for today.

I have one of these. I think it came from Shabby Chic. Virtually useless as a door stop -- at least with New York metal fire doors -- but like the bookend idea.

Um, why not just use a beautiful rock, beautifully cleaned and polished? They're free, you know.

Or, maybe on ANY post, we can just have someone automatically write "Love it but (insert dollar amount here)!!??" just to get that comment out of the way. :P

Have you guys been reading cottage living? They feature an identical knot door stopper and also use it as a book end. Their's is from twoscompany.com and its $46.25. STILL too expensive for a ball of rope :P

Think I agree with P(2) on this one, but also, to judge from the quoted prices, there seems to be about a $5 range there. Perhaps that is the going rate and perhaps there's a reason for it as well.

I honestly thought this post was a joke. Like everyone else I think $42 is ridiculous. And nautical is really only cool if you are a 10-yr old boy.

If you really love it, you can make it yourself. Search Google for "monkey fist" or monkey paw knot. Pretty easy to do

Talk about a multi-tasker! Doorstop, bookend, paperweight. With a slightly longer handle it also becomes a grab-and-go melee weapon.

That thing is awesome, however 42 dollars is rediculous, I make them and sell them for 15 bucks each.
