In honor of Valentine's Day, I was thinking over all my favorite items at all my favorite shops in San Francisco, trying to decide which was the most romantic. Without a doubt, this gorgeous handmade hardwood cutting board, to me, says love...

When I saw Luke Bartels' cutting boards at General Store (and you really do have to see them in person- the size is so luxurious and the wood is silky-smooth), they just made me think: forever. These are cutting boards to have forever, for years and years and countless meals. A cutting board to heap with torn peices of baguette and olives and home-pickled vegetables from the garden and call it dinner. A cutting board to take outside for a picnic on an old, impossibly soft quilt or to proudly display rare-splurge cheeses for special guests. A cutting board that will get better with use, and years, and love.
