When it comes to the geometry of interior design, rectangles are king. Perhaps that is why I love the look of round mirrors so much. Circular mirrors provide a striking contrast against the sharp angles of a desk, table or fireplace.
What's not to love about the circle? After all, it's the first shape we recognize as newborns. There is a natural and organic feel to round mirrors. But at the same time, the round mirror is a bold visual stamp on the wall, less like a window and more like an eye. A rectangular mirror fits into a room: A circular mirror punctuates it.

Gorgeous! & agreed!
I've been really drawn to these lately too. Also really loving the boot collection in #7.
anyone have any recommendations on where to find a large (inexpensive) one?

What an elegant way of phrasing! I agree!
I adore circle mirrors. I inherited one from my grandparents that was from a barbershop (1940s we think) that is HUGE - about 4.5 feet circumference - and hangs in my craft room (makes the tiny room look much bigger, but I really haven't got a good place to properly hang it elsewhere). It is a simple round with a bevel and weighs about 30 pounds.
I spent forever tracking down a small round mirror with a subtle gold frame for my dining/living room... about 10 years ago, it was next to impossible to find a round mirror that wasn't huge and gaudy in regular stores.
As far as finding a really large one inexpensively - I'd suggest checking craigslist and junk/antique stores and also look into the discount home stores - Home Goods, Ross, maybe even Kirklands and Pier 1 and maybe you'll find something not too terribly expensive. Oh! And don't forget the old standard department stores: JCPenney and Sears both have some nice and non-tacky round mirrors in amongst the other styles...
We have a great one from Ikea in our family room. Only $99. Sadly, I believe it's discontinued.

agreed, @illuminatedpst, it's so well put, as is "less like a window and more like an eye"
Also, with a round mirror you can do this DIY to it:

I did it to my round mirror a couple of weeks ago, and it turned out great!
