This week's Week One for the AT Fall Curees and purchasing flowers for the home is one of the first lessons they'll learn, an AT credo. We buy flowers for our home because they add beauty and life, they're a touch of luxury (especially in challenging economic times), they're a relatively inexpensive home indulgence, and because by choosing flowers and bringing them into our home and arranging them, we're using our home. Even if you haven't joined us in the Cure, why not try flowers in your home? To help you, we've rounded up a bunch of our posts to help you out...

Anyone know what kind of flowers are in the first picture top right (the spikey purple ones). Thanks
Oh I need to do this. I need to hunt down a good place to get flowers in Silverlake first. I used to do Trader Joe's but I always feel like I rush myself and just grab whatever.
nickel- it's hard for me to see on this screen size i have but i think those flowers are allium.
i keep giving in to the temptation of dahlias. they are gorgeous in the store, but seem to die immediately upon arrival at my apartment. what gives? this doesn't happen with other kinds of flowers.
Yes, those spiky flowers are allium. Costco is a great resource for fresh flowers. Dahlias are definitely a challenge. Be sure to cut the stems at an angle when you bring them home, use clean water and make sure there are no leaves below the water's surface. It helps a lot to mist them with cool water whenever you get a chance. I offer 10 Tips on How to Buy Fresh Flowers and Make Them Last Longer on my website, www.flowersmadesimple.net. I hope you pay me a visit.
