In the past, we’d never been a fan of sheer curtains. Childhood memories of them smelling strange when it rained, never being able to see outside properly and how dusty they get were all reasons that put us off having them in our own home.
However, seeing these sheer drapes all sleek, light and complimentary to the modern interior made us throw all those negative thoughts out the window. This weekend, we’re off to every window furnishing store in our local area as well as scanning through the Ikea website for some ideas to dress up our windows.
Knowing how far behind we were in appreciating sheer curtains, here’s a quick round up of some of our favorites in action across Apartment Therapy.

Do you have sheer curtains? Have you always loved them or have you only recently jumped on board the sheer curtain train with us? Where have you found some sheer curtains that you love?

Always had them because in a place like Seattle, we have to enjoy whatever light we get.
geeking out here, but i've seen that screensaver (flip-clock) somewhere (in an older OS? it's not in leopard that i can find). anyone have a link? it's a nice anachronism in the modern world.
redneckmodern: Flip clock screensaver!
Wow - that first picture is fabulous. Reminiscent of the light inside the Clayoquot tents from a couple of days ago.
The charcoal sheers sound interesting. No picture?
I'm happy with the sheers I put up in my apartment a couple of weeks ago. When I clean up enough to take pictures I'll post them.
I like voile sheers curtains. They diffuse light evenly, don't wrinkle easily, and don't attract dust as much as other fabrics might.
thx. the unplggd was the source i remember... so... many... links... and pages (hard to keep track). it looks quite nice in this setting as the imac screensaver. gives the piece a purpose when not in use. as for the curtains? we're more roller-shade folks.
Always a fan. Ikea has great deals on sheer curtains.
i love sheers. in fact, i hate covering up my beautiful old windows with heavy drapery. so, in my bedroom, i simply hung pretty sheers up that i found in an upstairs closet. i have considered adding blinds as i am sure my neighbors might not appreciate the lack of modesty... but there is something about seeing the ropes that hold the weights and all...
I love sheer curtains. They add a wonderful airiness to a room and I don't think they get any dustier than other kinds of curtains. Just make sure you get 'em in a washable, easy-care fabric (IKEA has tons).
To answer the questions --
1 - yes, we have sheers,
2 - yes, always loved them. (I grew up with sheers as part of a traditional 3-part window covering: venetian blinds, sheers, pinch-pleat draperies on traverse rods. You can control light, mood, privacy, almost anything with that system.)
