Chandeliers don't have to be placed only in formal spaces. Beautiful lighting in the bedroom does wonders to create a relaxing, sexy, or fun mood.
Because we're dealing with a private part of the home, it's easier to experiment here with hanging height, shades, exposed bulbs, color, scale, shape, and placement. It's always good to bring some creativity into the bedroom. Check out some ideas on just how to do so.

Shaw's Original Fir...
maybe i'm old fashioned but some of these seem very oddly placed especially #3 and even #7.
I think chandeliers in the bedroom are pretty cool. The vision of what I'd like my bedroom to look like (when it's all said and done) would look great with a chandelier. However, I won't be able to talk the SO out of the ceiling fan. Is any way I can have both? I've never seen anything like it.
This post came at a perfect time! This week I decided I want a chandelier in the bdrm. Where can I find one that is not over the top expensive and not too difficult to install? Ideas?
Am I wrong to say that rare is the partner who is willing to stare up at a chandelier every night?
Which goes back to the fascinating question of how a house gets decorated when a couple lives there, I love guessing the story on that one in house tours. So much changes when it's a democracy.
For us, chandeliers are in the same category as Budweiser stained glass. Which I guess would make that room in the fifth picture off limits, hah!
I've had a chandelier as my ceiling light fixture in the bedroom for years. I found the current one on a trip to Sicily and brought it back with me. I love it. Three of my other bedrooms also have chandeliers found in various consignment/second-hand shops. It's especially easy and elegant in this house with 10 foot high ceilings.

Nothing against chandeliers per se, but I would not want one directly over me while I'm sleeping. Same goes with ceiling fans, large light fixtures, or anything else that could potentially (even if only in my wildest dreams) become dislodged and impale me while I'm sleeping. We have a gigantic light fixture over our couch and I can't even take a nap there.
The best example of a chandelier in the bedroom was in an issue of UK Elle Deco from around 2002. Have been trying to talk my husband into it ever since, but we do not have particularly high ceilings, and I haven't found the right fixture yet.
Still, I would feel a little uncomfortable about it if it were hung directly above the bed -- I am with MansardRoof on that one!
@p_capucine: I know, it isn't easy, but I was persistent (and lucky enough-he loves me) and he finally said 'Yes'! Having a chandelier in my bedroom was a dream of mine but I never wanted to have a big one, that would be overwhelming. So I found one that was modern, not to big, very cheap (50$ only!) but lovely and sparkly: http://lovelivesurvivehome.blogspot.com/2009/10/purple-inspiration-for-my-bedroom.html BTW, he absolutely loves it!
And I recycled another one for my daughter - it goes so well with modern: http://lovelivesurvivehome.blogspot.com/2009/11/chandelier-recycled-and-saved-from.html
MansardRoof, i totally understand.
My godsister had a PROFESSIONAL install a light fixture in her daughter's room (not over the bed, thank God) and it fell a few days later.
Luckily no one was hurt. I understand your fear.
Co-incidently I just got an installation photo of one of our Murano Glass Chandeliers that we did for Jim Morrison Custom Homes in CA.
Although this would be typically used in a dinning room or entry way, he put it in a girls bedroom and I think it looks great!
