We recently found out the hard (and embarrassing) way that dogs are not allowed on Amtrak trains. To avoid future travel hiccups, we rounded up resources for traveling with a pet and pet-friendly places in DC and in other Apartment Therapy cities. Our search led us to find many dog-friendly DC spots including hotels and bars with Doggie Happy Hours...

Shown in the Photos:
• a dog checking out Franklin D. Roosevelt's dog in the Washington, DC memorial
• our dog Cassidy enjoying a lovely day on the Potomac River in Georgetown
• daschunds and people viewing art at The Torpedo Factory "All About Dogs" event
• a German Shepherd outside the Senate building from Bring Fido
• a cat staying at The Hotel Helix in Dupont Circle

Doggie Happy Hours in DC:
Cantina Marina on the Southwest waterfront on Monday nights
The Hotel Monaco Alexandria in Old Town on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer
The Hotel Helix in Dupont Circle on Wednesday nights
Union Pub in Capitol Hill on Saturday afternoons
• More dog-friendly happy hours from The Washingtonian
