• I love my galoshes! I did an entire photo series on them when I was living in San Francisco (where it rained more than once a year). But I don't love the mess they make when you come in from the rain. Martha Stewart offers this solution, which I adore. This pebble-filled tray still manages to look modern and stylish, while preventing a puddle at your front door.
• I'm currently settling for my beloved, fairly beat up Mexican woven blanket. Perhaps one day I can upgrade to a gorgeous Pendleton wool throw. This Iroquois Turtle Blanket is gorgeous, and super cozy looking.
• Fall, for me, means warm candles glowing in every room (well, the one you're in, anyhow) in a seasonal-inspired scent. I tend not to opt for the more literal seasonal scents, like Warm Pumpkin Pie, and love Voluspa's sophisticated blends, like this Winesap Apple Spice.
• I think I've become a bit more open to traditional decor since buying a home. But only traditional decor with a more modern twist. This Autumn Door Wreath from Etsy seller HeartfeltYarnWreaths is quite nice for an entryway. I'm opening my heart to door wreaths!
• I have a ton of scarves, and I love to wear them. When they're piled in a basket or crammed in my closet, I often don't take advantage enough. I love this solution for bringing your scarves out into your home without creating a corner of chaos. Using a ladder, especially a vintage-looking one, to display them makes them more of an artistic showing rather than a functional mess! Via I'm Glad I Exist.

Sheex Bedding
You're terribly optimistic if you think we'll get enough rain to justify a purchase of #1 anytime soon. It is pretty nice looking though.
@verily - lol, you must not be in C.Tx today, rain at ACL earlier and 1"+ at San Antonio airport this morning... YEA!! I broke out the Liberty of London wellies (Target) for the muddy spots. It may really be fall!
I love the pebble-filled tray!
Oh, I am. It rained for all of five minutes and then stopped. It's already dry outside.
I love the pebble filled tray
I love fall and we are moving to the season. This year, we have re-done our whole back stairs; where once there was carpet (blame the previous owner), there is now slate on the landing and painted stairs both upstairs (to the kitchen) and downstairs (to the basement and where we store our wet and dirty shoes, in our no shoes inside household). It was way more work than we had anticipated, but with the new stairs, and some decoration, including prints at the base of the stairs, we feel ready for fall and the winter to come.
I wore my rubber-duck yellow rain boots yesterday and today -- I'm setting up one of these trays! And my dream blanket is in the enormous Restoration Hardware catalog I got this week, but I'll have to hit the lottery to afford it.
i love this post! makes me excited for fall. good ideas! thanks for sharing!
Hah, you're just like me! I walked into a Starbucks here in Austin the other day and ordered myself a pumpkin spice latte. "Iced?" the barista asked. "No, hot," I replied!
Sometimes the only thing you need to make it Fall is to pretend with your heart and soul that it actually is Fall outside. ;)
And I love the pebbles too! After living in Boston for 2 years, I wonder why every home on the East Coast doesn't come with something like that installed by the front door.
You folks are funny!
Here in Saint Paul, MN, Fall is halfway out the door - highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s.
As for prepping the apartment/house, I'm simply finishing all the things I wanted to do over the summer:
(1) Re-hang the flat-screen TV (shifted by 1.5 feet).
(2) Finish the remainder of the floor.
(3) Put the summer clothes away.
I'm here where we wear those LL Bean booties year round (in Maine) and Fall's definitely gotten an early start this year. Brrrrrrrrrr!
Really don't like the pebble filled tray, other than how it looks for the photo shoot. We all know how hard to clean that thing would be, c'mon folks. Don't you ever track in mud? Those boots look like they came out of the shower. Who does that!
I did the pebble filled tray thing and it was hugely helpful! The bottom of the boots dry out overnight rather than sitting in a puddle! The stones? Sure, they get dirty in the course of the season, but in spring you just dump em out, hose off, let dry on the patio and put in a bag until next winter.
Now, I just want that hi-walled tray in the picture to make it even better!
Jessica - I want to see your galoshes photo series!
