- Oh, how I wish that my shoes were pretty enough (and clean enough!) to display on pieces of crown molding on the wall! I love this idea---even if only for my seldom worn fancy shoes. Shoes are often works of art in their own right, and at very least this would save my prettiest ones from the ravages of the closet pile! Via Babble
- J-Me's freestanding Nest Shoe Rack is as interesting as it is useful! Perfect for an entryway to catch your most often worn shoes.
- I love the idea of repurposing a vintage or rustic shelf of some sort into shoe storage. Even though this one, seen on Stylish Eve, is full of tennis shoes (not necessarily decor-friendly) it still attractive enough to keep in full view!
- I have to say that I am still a fan of a simple over-the-door shoe caddy. Although I will maintain that the cheap-looking plastic ones or garishly patterned examples irk me. A simple and clean canvas caddy, like this one seen on Real Simple, is a tried and true option, and not just for shoes! That is, as long as you have a door for it...I'm out of luck in my bedroom.
- I love this tutorial on how to make an attractive and modern shoe rack, found on not martha. Inspired by the J-Me Horizontal Shoe Rack, this is a simple and affordable DIY. Love it!

White Enamel Four-P...
option 2 looks very pretty, but yes only for shoes that are not worn or scuffed.
no 4 is cute by the door!
no 5 I meant ofcourse
I like number one. But I have about three of the Rakku Wheels and they are awesome. Every time I have friends over (especially the females) they go gaga over them. It's like a hamster wheel for shoes. I have over 100 pairs (did I just admit that?) and they all fit in nice and neet. I also have shelves for my boots.

I'd love to find a simple and inexpensive way to display my 86 pairs of shoes. I know the best way would be simple shelving, but we just don't have the wall space! If anyone has any inspiring ideas for large shoe collections please let me know!
I'm sorry, but to me this is definitely a no no. Shoe racks and other shoe storage units are already bad enough, I'm not going to put themup on display in any part of my apartment. My shoes are and will remain stored away in a closet.
Mrsbossa, I use the Ikea Skubb storage organizer for my shoes http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00193386/#/10185588. Each compartment fits one pair, with the exception of winter boots. Not owning as many pairs as you, I only have 4 units hanging in my entrance wardrobe, but it works nicely and I'm very happy about it.
Love #5! I wonder how easy it would be to store both running shoes and flip flops on the same row? Maybe have one set of shelves wider for the running shoes/boots and the second set closer for flip flops, sandals and flats. The only problem - I'd still have to reach down and put them on the shelves, instead of just kicking off my shoes when I walk in the door.
Numbers 2 and 5 may mark your shoes on the toe, particularly suede and leather, essentially from the weight of the shoe pressing upward.
I'm with Papioshka on this one.
