OUTDOOR SHOWER INSPIRATION
- • Unless you have very understanding neighbors or no neighbors at all, this one, styled by the illustrious Twig Hutchinson, may just have to remain in the dream file. For me it exudes the type of easy living that outdoor showers convey.
• This one hails from my dream getaway, Hotel Azucar, outside of Veracruz. To see more of the hotel, check out this post from last summer’s Great Escapes.
• Adding a plant or two to an outdoor shower can make it more of a destination than a purely utilitarian spot.
• Or add a trellis to frame a wall mounted shower.
• Sunset featured this vibrant outdoor shower created from standard indoor plumbing equipment. The curtain is made from Sunbrella fabric.
OUTDOOR SHOWER SOURCES
Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware recently sold out of their beautiful free-standing outdoor showers, but here are a few runner-ups…
- • Golden Teak's outdoor shower made form solid teak with brushed chrome hardware.
• We've heard great things about Vintage Tub's Spring House Economy Exposed Outdoor Shower which is about as basic as they come.
• Designer Plumbing's Sunrise exposed shower has a bit heftier of a pricetag, but gets points for its clean style.
• Game Outdoor Solar Shower is not the prettiest one on the market, but it has the ease of being able to be hooked up to your garden hose while still providing warm showers.

I've been designing my dream summer house in my head since I was about 15 and it has changed a lot through the years. But it always has an outdoor shower!

At the beach... the only way to go is the outdoor shower!!

I've always had an outdoor shower in my plans, too, but it only came to fruition once. Feeling frustrated with never having the right set up and never enough cash to start from scratch I used a funky old arbor and set it up like #4. I ran a black garden hose from the kitchen faucet out the window but had to dash in and out to get the temp just right. The back of the old farmhouse was rough stacked stone so there were nooks and crannies for the soap. etc. I allowed a wild grapevine to cover the works, worked perfectly for privacy. A vinyl covered metal grid kept my feet off the ground. Funky to the extreme but still SO decadent and luxurious.
My bf designed ours. He had a vintage porthole cut thru from the actual indoor shower stall to the deck outside so we can hook up a shower hose and pass it through to the outdoor area where we have a sunken vintage tub in the deck. This way we can have hot and cold water in the tub or take a shower :) We liked it so much we put in a second tub on a lower deck and he rigged up an elaborate waterfall system to fill that tub. Right now we have a rescued Eastern Painted Turtle living in that one, though! LoL
I can't get enough of outdoor showers! I also wrote about them in mid-July! http://www.thestudiolo.com/2010/07/outdoor-showers.html
At the beach, in the mountains, in the prairie, outdoor showers are the way to go. They're amazing and it feels so refreshing to shower outdoors... not to mention the aspect of being closer to nature while performing acts of living. Thanks for posting this article to help others learn more.
