As arguably the workhouse of the house, the kitchen can often be a study of function over form. To show that you shouldn't have to choose between beauty and usability, we're highlighting some of our favorite House Tour kitchens that got the mix right.

I instantly recognized the rack in the top photo - we have a stack of them that we use as displays at work.
I would never have thought of them in that context, but it looks pretty good.
That citrus-y orange in the top photo is wonderful. Does anyone know the paint color?
Wow, I was thinking of painting my kitchen just like that orange in the top picture. And having seen what it looks like on a real kitchen, I'm totally gonna do it ;)
Question: how do you mount a magnetic knife strip to a refrigerator, such as in Xing's kitchen?
If it's a super strong magnet, it might just... stick. Although I'd be afraid of trying that with a knife rack.
And there's always our friend epoxy, if you're super sure you want it there and it's your fridge.
Regarding mounting the knife rack on the fridge-
Why *can't* you just screw it in? Isn't the wall there just full of insulation?
i love the idea of the floor lamp in the 4th photo, but it doesn't look functional
Unfortunately it's not my fridge so I couldn't epoxy it or screw it in (I'd be a little nervous about screwing into the fridge anyways). My strip is only magnetic on the front as far as I know...hmmm
kitty, you could use a few strips of Command adhesive: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Command/home/us_en/products/mounting_strips/
I guess how well it sticks would depend on how smooth the surface of your fridge is, but I've used them on textured walls and still had good results. It might be worth a shot.
Thanks als1 - I think I'll try those! I haven't had much luck with those things but that was back when they were a newer product. I bet they've improved.
