Russian nesting dolls or Matryoshka are a popular Russian national souvenir — and lately we've been seeing the dolls co-opted into modern decor. Nesting dolls are perfect for themed, kitschy decor like the Obama and Star Wars Matryoska dolls.

I always found nesting dolls creepy. It just went up a notch!
I just bought the Fred Flare measuring cups last week. They're great; they include not-so-standard sizes like 2/3 cup and 3/4 cup. The Obama dolls, however, are just creepy. Surely you could have found some nicer ones for the round up? Nesting dolls are so common these days—almost cliché at times—that there are a lot of options, especially on etsy.
I don't know about calling most of these "new takes." Nesting dolls have been painted every which way as souvenirs for ages. But I do LOVE the measuring cups. Maybe every lady in my Russian family should get them for Christmas...
Are the ones in the first picture nesting dolls-in-burkas?
Let's not forget Miss Monster's nesting dolls! She does a fabu job of making pretty things.
