These are not your grandma's rocking chairs. Rocking chairs can still be pretty cool and I found a handful that I would love to incorporate into a contemporary space. The modern rocking chairs are not just for the living room, they can also be used in a nursery (in place of the traditional upholstered rocker), bedroom, or dining room.
My favorite rocking chair from the selection is definitely the Kalifornia Rocker by WhyrHymer. It is a little pricey, but if you know the high level of craftsmanship Brandon (owner of WhyrHymer) puts into all his pieces you will know it is well worth it. Which modern rocking chair is your favorite?

Rather pricey, no?
oh my gosh, so expensive! that's ridiculous.
oh come on AT, linking the eames rocker to a knock-off on amazon?!
Pricey and only about 2 of them look comfortable. I think I'll stick with gliders, thanks.
That first one is seriously fug. $5,500 fug at that. I agree with the commenter above - I think only #2 & #10 look remotely comfortable. I'll stick with my painfully un-hip, inherited Amish-made rocker.
The KU Dir Ka Chair is totally charming (minus the blind orange) - love the humor, simplicity and function.
We've been coveting the Risom Rocker at DWR. Okay - more like stalking craigslist for one.

You've left out our MCM (Finnish) rocker off your list!
It's the Lepo Moderno L-66 by Yrjö Kukkapuro:

It's comfortable and gorgeous -- especially since we got it covered in a bright turquoise from Designers Guild.
I like #2 the best, but I wouldn't drop this kind of money on any of them.
Got a good laugh from the cleverness of the Ku Dir Ka. But I remember sitting on my grandparents' porch in Arkansas, where the old, uneven floorboards ran parallel to the house, so that every "rock" of the chair was more like "bump bump bump" and I fear this would be the same! Still, it's a hoot.
There is a rocking chair design which I have seen pictures of (seems to appear with some regularity on design shows etc) that I want to find out more about. It has a woven leather seat and back, (bent?) wood arms and profile something like the gotham rocker http://www.vivavi.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=246
Long shot, but does anyone know what this chair might be? thanks!
I agree with you, I love the first rocker. But, I'd never pay that price! The KU Dir Ka is unique. How well does it actually rock?
