We've never been one to use place cards, probably because we max out at four people for a formal dinner party (and yeah, that count is including us). But we can see the benefit of them if you're having a large event with guests who may not know each other. Ikea also has a napkin ring with a slit in the top for a place card. I think it's stainless steel.
