My affinity for patchwork quilts has definitely grown as I have gotten older, and those made by folks I know and love hold a great deal of value for me. I have to say, though, that I love the general feeling of warmth, comfort, and welcoming that almost any quilt gives off! Here are some examples of lovely quilts:
1. Design Sponge gave us a Sneak Peek at Cassandra Ellis & Ed Pritchard's home--they definitely appreciate a good quilt around their house!
2. Seesaw Designs shows one of my favorite examples of a modern color palette in a traditional style. The quilt, from Urban Outfitters, is unfortunately no longer available, but I've seen many a quilt and coverlet pass through their inventory that had a great deal of appeal!
3. Lisa Gerinder's home was featured on Fine Little Day and I love the low-sitting sofa covered in a sweet vintage quilt.
4. Be careful reading through the archives of Doe-C-Doe...Gina has a knack for finding gorgeous quilts at thrift stores for killer prices. I was green with envy reading through her catalog of finds...
5. Of course Victoria from SFGirlByBay would find a way to post a gorgeous quilt shot---which happens to be another from Urban Outfitters. I'm telling you! They're no heirloom quilts, to be sure, but there are some nice blankets at UO from time to time!

My neighbor makes awesome Mondrain-style "modern" quilts. I wish she had some pictures online to share with you guys.
my grandmother makes a quilt for each grandchild every year (all 27 of them). it's terrible to say, of course i love them all, but i definitely have a favorite. she basically used all of her scraps from other quilts, so it's really colorful and textural.
i've hung it on my bedroom wall before, but now it's strictly a couch blanket. so cozy!
Oh, here's a small one on her etsy site. She does most of her sales locally, though, so she's done a lot more than this, and with a lot more intricate pattern.
I love a good quilt. Im even guilty of buying moderately ugly country style ones from thrift stores for the dog or for when the nice ones are in the wash. You can eat popcorn and drink hot chocolate with them without worrying. Perfect on a Michigan snow day after sledding!
The name says it all..
I am the beneficiary of many beautiful quilts my grandmother and her mother before her made. I love that they are not only comforting in their warmth but also in their family history.
I found a gorgeous vintage hand stitched quilt (in mustard yellow/brown/white with a touch of orange and green) for four euros at my neighborhood thrift store. I bought it to use as a beach /picnic blanket..
I do want to sew a quilt one of these days, probably a simple one with big squares :D
There's a huge community of young(er) people quilting these days, and a lot of them make cool, modern stuff - check out themodernquiltguild.com, and handmadebyalissa.com
I am a modern quilter myself. I am a therapist by profession (though I am home now doing the mommy thing) and now make quilts as a side project for extra cash. I recommend checking out the quilts in flickr's Fresh Modern Quilts feed. There are over 26,000 images! A great place to search for ideas.

I have recently started making quilts (in the last year) and talk about them on my blog http://handmadebyclairebear.com/2011/12/24/modern-vs-traditional/
