My family and I are getting ready to travel to my home state of West Virginia. It is the best time of year to go. The mountains are full of color with scattered greens, earthy browns, and pops of vibrant reds and yellows. The scenic drive always reminds me of a patchwork quilt. Below you'll find a gathering of handmade quilts from some wonderful quilt makers and dealers. Do you have a favorite quilter or shop? Please share in the comments.

Your home state of WV is full of very talented quilters, both traditional and contemporary--and yet, you didn't refer to any of them--why not?
The Cultural Center has a juried exhibition every year, the Charleston branch of the Kanawha County Public Library has quilts hanging on the main level, Tamarack in Beckley has plenty of quilters, and there are countless more. Please do your (and my) home state a favor and recognize some of our many artists as you are enjoying the scenery and your trip!
Thank you so much for the suggestion. Unfortunately I am not familiar with any WV quilters. I would love to learn more. I think it would make a wonderful follow-up post!
Do you know of any artisans with websites? We will be passing the Tamarack and thanks to you, I have added it to our schedule.
On another note, I have been able to find amazing vintage quilts in WV.
WVquilters.org should be a good place to start. They have a number of links, including those to quilting guilds and shops within WV. Jane Frenke has a website, fiestafibers.com. Sally Rowe (sallyrowequilts.com) has another. Cabin Creek Quilts (cabincreekquilts.com) is a co-op begun in 1970 and is going strong--mostly traditional style.
That should be a starting point--and if you stop at Tamarack, try to time it for lunch--food prepared by culinary school students at the Greenbrier at fast food prices.
Enjoy!
Oh! This is wonderful. So kind of you to share. I truly appreciate it. I jumped on the sites and Sally Rowe knocked my socks off. Love the Country Road Quilt. Thank you again! Oh and how about those leaf quilts on the Fiesta Fibers site? Wow! You made my day.
