It seems that since we've moved to San Francisco, we're constantly on the prowl for smaller scale furniture--and currently it's sofas. We have a small common area in which we can only fit a sofa around 60" or smaller, as do many of you who live in small spaces. So here are some of our favorite finds for a loveseat scale sofa!

You totally forgot the Anywhere Sofa from Urban Outfitters, I buy clothes there, don't really like them as a mega corporate store, but the anywhere sofa just rocks plain and simple!

I've been looking for a loveseat forever. I want something Danish, teak, mid-century, and under 50". It seems like the hardest search! I see sofas on craigslist that fit the above mentioned criteria except for the size. They're usually very long, like 72". I totally love the Orla Kiely sofa by the way. Way over my means.
Life got so much simpler when I switched to love seat/small sofas. I have 3 now, and only one stuffed soft chair with arms. None of the 3 match but play off each other in color, all solid. Throws and pillows liven them up. I'm really done with 3-seater sofas. Maybe because I'm a petite person, it just fits my style. Thanks for these examples.
You should've cut one out and titled the post "Seven Stylish Small Scale Sofas" for an alliteration win.
Oh! And I spent less than $500 for all three. One's IKEA, another from Craigslist (a Macy's product, great condition) and one was given to me, in mint condition. A client who was switching up. Best CL purchase ever, drove 4.5 hours to get it. All over 5 years now and still in great shape.
try finding a small SECTIONAL!!! We have our tv in the basement with my art studio, and the placement is non-negotiable, but the space is tiny- even too small for ikea!

I'm a big fan of the Ikea Tylosand; the "living room" of my old apartment was 5'x6', and that chaise longue's low profile and single arm made the place feel incredibly spacious. (12' ceilings help, too)
Does anyone have comments on the C&B Oxford? I have an ikea sulsta right now, that is suprisingly comfertable to sleep on, but its not the best sofa. I find that the foam is not nearly stiff enough, and you kind of sink forward. If there was a way to temporarily secure the thing to the sofa, it might even be perfect.....anyway. I digress. So not being completely satified I was thinking of saving up for one of the C&B options. Any thoughts would be welcomed.
Is this THEE Jessica Tata that Ryan Doyon has been trying to get me to meet? I was just looking at couches online and noticed your name. Ryan would like to comment that he prefers this small couch and it will fit in any apartment - http://www.lovethatcat.com/cat-furniture-lilac-L.html
(this is Ryan's friend Melinda, by the way)
@meomi Are you in NYC? Something like this - or rather, half of it - might be what you're looking for. Looks to need some tlc...

CB2 also has a twin sleeper that's 51" wide and really cute. I've had my eye on it for a while!

Thanks for this post... I am in need for a small sofa!
I fell in love with the Blu Dot Paramount Studio Sofa http://www.bludot.com/Browse_Products/Seating/product/Paramount_studio but I couldn't justify the price tag, especially since I have pets. I DIY'd my own version using the KARLSTAD love seat from Ikea. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S59877833, a cover from Bemz and some modern chrome legs I bought online. Total, it cost about half of what the Blu Dot sofa costs and is surprisingly comfortable.
@home body, yes, I'm in NYC and that's exactly what I'm looking for! Thank you for the tip! I was not aware of the store before. This is totally neato.
I LOVE that Orla Keily sofa...so gorgeous. But yes, definitely on the expensive side.
I have the 78" version of the Loring sofa and love the look and quality. I would definitely consider a love seat version of it, although thanks to Room & Board inflation my sofa cost the same 2 yrs ago as the love seat does now.
ok the Sarina Settee in pic 7 that I'd been eyeing before this post is now sold out (they only had one left). Who's the lucky buyer? It's got to be an AT reader! :-D
Does any one know where the sidetable is from on pic 6?
I love the yellow small couch but I think those traffic mirrors hanging over it would drive me insane! :)
Bungalow5DK - it's a CB2 table (the whole picture is staged from CB2 wares): http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=114&f=5621

Does anyone own the Sutton Sofette? Can you speak to it's comfort and quality?
so funny. we just moved from sf to nyc and are now looking for a sofette! erinsauce or anyone else, did you end up getting the westelm sutton? as of now it's the best contender but i'd love to hear some feedback on it before we pull the trigger.
Hope you didn't buy it. I went to see about the the Sutton sofette today (for my 250 sq foot wee studio). It is an absolute piece of cheap, wobbly crap.
This comment comes two years after the article was posted but I want to add something to definition of a small sofa.
To be small, the sofa must not only be shorter but also shallower. Mid-century couches were typically less than 30" deep, with seat depth less than 30" but still ample. Today, designers favor seats so deep that only basketball players can sit comfortably.
So ... I suggest that a small sofa be one that is around 60" long, no more than 30" wide (with seat depth around 20"), and around 36" tall.
