The only way these look right to me is in very casual settings involving a large TV. So the fourth, fifth, and eighth ones in this series.

i didn't like it until i sat on it, and it's heaven, so comfy! i added it to my list of favourites.

Not trying to diss because everyone has different opinions and it's kind of a classic, but it just reminds me of a caterpillar! Plus it seems like once you sit down it would be comfortable of course, hard to get back up... Am I wrong?

I like them a lot, but I think it's hard to incorporate them into a holistic room -- especially in an open concept. Dining tables and chairs tend to look oddly spindly if they're near a Togo.

Clearly not seating for people over 55 or with certain impairmants. I have family and guests of all ages and capacities and this just wouldn't do.

I'm 27, and the proud owner of three togos elements (pouf, 1-person seating and 2 persons seating). They're vintage, but perfect. Of course, you don't seat 60 years old on those, but then again, I'm 500 km away from aging grand-parents, and I'm the one to call on them. You can also easily match them with chairs for the elderly: I have a Voltaire chair I use for that purpose.

TOGO: A Love Story

I fell in love with Togo back in 1974 -- two different sets of my parent's friends had gotten a set -- one was was a big bold blue & white gingham, the other a velvety beige velour with a tiny square pattern.

The differences in their respective living rooms were huge -- one was in an architect-designed home with a soaring 2 storey ceiling in the living room, filled with light woods and bright colours; the other, the home of a professor of architecture, his doctor wife, and their 2 university children (both students of architecture). The latter was beige and cosy, complemented by dark vintage furniture, including '30s style wood floor lamps with fringed shades; there were large beautiful landscapes from the 1930s, along with smaller canvases, and potted plants.

I spent a lot of time in those Togos, both of them, and vowed that the Togo would be my sofa when I grew up. I always imagined rolling on the sofa with my kids, and cuddling together to watch a movie.

And that is just what happened...

When I went to grad school, and moved in with my boyfriend, we somehow (poor students that we were) managed to buy a Togo with money I had been setting aside for years.

We now have a red ultrasuede 3-seater, 2-seater, corner and pouf -- my husband (same guy as 20 years ago) insisted we replace our 19 year old one before buying anything else -- he loves the Togo that much. (we retired out first Togo after 19 years) Our 5 and 2 1/2 year olds cuddle on it, nap on it, and play on it, just as I had imagined those many years ago.

Sure, it was a little difficult getting up from the Togo when I was pregnant, and when I hosted my bookclub (with a number of 60 year olds), I kept them in the dining room, and yes, we will one day get more formal living room furniture for guests (we told ourselves this was our family room furniture), the Togo is still our only sofa, we still love it, we still cuddle in it every day.

Want one so much. Will never ever be able to afford one. Sigh.

How funny that all the settings these couches are put in look amazing... were they set this way on purpose(?). to make the sofas look amazing....

how would they stand on their own.... Oh, and by the way... how easy is to get up from them....?

inmod has a very affordable repro Togo if the real one is out of your price range. I would assume that it wouldn't feel the same though.

I guess I'm lucky (as far as expensive wish lists go) - I do not like them at all. They just look like a fancy bean bag.

I've owned these in the past, absolutely fantastic furniture. If I ever have these again in the future I will spring a little extra for the leather, the ultrasuede gets very dirty, pretty quickly, given that it is right on the floor (dog slober, dust, etc.). It always strikes me, and this is not a bad thing, as a trust fund kid's first furniture set.

what are the two brown leather chairs opposite to the green togo sofa ? I love those.

They always look like dorm furniture for the couple who couldn't afford better to me. The fact that they're fugly AND uber expensive...I'm just amazed people would spend that and actually put it in their house.

Hey NYDwell, I think that the two chairs you're referring to are the Paulistano Airchair - Slipcover chairs. They're $800 from DWR. Personally I think they look awesome next the Togo couch.

Has anyone ever purchased a Togo couch in leather? If so, which of the three leather options did you go for? How does the leather Togo couch seem to stand against general wear and tear???

Yes, it looks like a grub worm and that is one of the reasons I love it so much!! We've had our aubergine microsuede loveseat and pouf for almost a year. It is slightly more difficult to get up from it as compared with a "regular" sofa, but who cares. It's cozy, comfy, unique, and looks cool as hell, in my opinion. (I love licorice too.)

I really dislike the Togo. They look like slugs. I do, however, love uni and licorice.

They have a very similar set at Funky Furniture on Folsom in San Francisco and I bought one and love it!!
