We spotted a new and promising wood finish at Ecohome Improvement
in Berkeley. Rubio Monocoat is an oil finish with zero VOCs...Rubio Monocoat
manufactured in Belgium. We haven't had a chance to use it ourselves yet, but our contact at the store reports that people are really happy with it.
It's applied similarly to OSMO Polyx Oil
, which means a bit of buffing is involved. Unlike polyurethane, it's repairable in spots. It comes in 34 colors and either a matte or satin sheen.
Rubio's website claims the formula is based on "natural vegetable compounds," but that's all we could find out about the ingredients. We think we caught a whiff of some kind of hydrocarbon, though...
