"Ruggedly Dainty" Tabletop Inspirations

"Ruggedly Dainty" Tabletop Inspirations

I'm not much of a cook, so I aim for tabletop decor that will distract my guest from my culinary shortcomings. I found some of the most fabulous "ruggedly dainty" tablescapes out there this year to inspire me and some sources to help emulate the inspiration. What is "ruggedly dainty" you ask? A term I paraphrased from photographer Charley Star, which he describes as "rustic sophistication". Think John Wayne meets Princess Diana — to collaborate on tablescapes for a Holiday party!

I located my three tabletop inspirations, while perusing photos from this year's "Hitched" wedding showcase event in Southern California. The tablescapes were so thoughtful and creative, I wanted to reconstruct them somehow into my own life — sans a wedding. The oh-so-lovely ideas easily translate into holiday, with a slight twist on color themes: substitute pink for red or orange and turquoise for royal blue and so forth. Or kick tradition to the curb and use the aforementioned color schemes.

Tablescape Inspirations

1 Tablescape by Sitting in a Tree I love the golden colt, plates and silverware combined with the brightly hued chevron napkins. Mixing in the burlap adds the roughness and texture that keeps this look high and mighty on the saddle.

2 Tablescape by Bash, Please The heafty steins, wildflower jars and white vintage linens are a perfect balance of masculine and feminine. The iron lanterns add a warm glow to this prairie chic look.

3 Tablescape by Green Wedding Shoes These DIY looks blend harmoniously. I covet the stamped burlap…why not stamp your guests' name right above their plates? The framed photos are lovely, you could try a miniature version of framed photos of loved ones for placecard holders.
