We've looked at rugs in unexpected places before, but how about out on the porch? Even just a painted rug makes even an outdoor hangout feel like a cozy living space:
Painted "rugs" can take on any size and pattern you need, and they wear just like, well, a painted porch floor. Actual rugs may bring a softer and more comfortable feeling to the porch, but they'll be tougher to clean and maintain. Either way, we love the introduction of a little extra color and texture in this unexpected location.

Love Nicole's porch in the first picture! Kind of hoping our back porch will take on a similar vibe when we get it finished.
Are you sure those rugs aren't just laying out to dry in the last picture? But seriously, I love rugs on porches and those recycled plastic woven rugs you can buy for that purpose are nice.
I have a small house with a wonderful screen porch. Adding an outdoor carpet expanded the feel of the house and makes the porch the favorite "room". I highly recommend it.
I really love the first photo! I'd love to do a painted rug on our deck, but alas, I think that'd go against the condo bylaws. But I am on the lookout for a good outdoor rug. Anyone have any ideas for ones that aren't super expensive?
SLourdes, World Market had a really good selection when I was in there last week - reasonable prices, none (even large ones) were over $60 or so.
Overstocks has some nice, reasonable indoor/outdoor rugs as well.
Thanks for including my porch! Makes me wish for warmer weather so I can get out there and enjoy it again.
There's always the floorcloth option, too, don't forget! Canvas with the ends turned under and glued, with painted/stencilled designs on it, then varnished for the waterseal.
The most beautiful 'rug on porch' picture i've seen is Catherine Martin's lace rug: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/property/home-magazine/back-in-black-is-back/story-e6freff3-1225704325227
love it!
