Maybe you collect antique rugs, or maybe you want to add more texture and pattern to a wall than wallpaper can provide. Consider these examples of hanging rugs on walls:
As we go into the cooler fall season, rugs on walls can also provide warmth to a room. If you fall in love with a really old rug that just wouldn't hold up on the floor, this is a perfect way to bring it into your home anyway. And one more plus: unlike wallpaper, you can take it with you when you move.

I think rugs on walls is a brilliant idea! Colour texture and warmth and a little bit of quirkiness. My sister has Swedish rag rugs on her hallway wall: http://www.trendey.com/rag-rugs-on-hall-wall
I love rugs on walls and a great place to get extremely affordable small rugs is http://www.ecarpetgallery.com/default.aspx
Great quality gently used rugs. They arrive with a feeling of authentic history and artisanship and I promise you'll love yours!
I also love this idea! Can someone give me some idea's on how to hang a rug on the wall???
My grandmother hung rugs on walls - she did it in the teens and in the 90s. I think it's an Eastern European thing. She usually hung a photo or painting on top of the rug too.
Just don't do shag on the rugs, or you'll be in, ba ba ba barbarella influenced 1970's style.
I'm surprised at how nice the grey rug in the first picture works! Orientals and Navajo rugs I have seen forever, but nothing this stark.
I'd love to get some hanging instructions. I found many rugs that would make great art & great headboards.

This may be too little too late.... but the easiest way to hang a rug on the wall is to work some nails through it. I was afraid I'd ruin my rugs this way, but if you use several small finishing nails, you can very carefully work the nail point through the weave without cutting the threads.
A former employer brought me a beautiful pink and purple prayer rug from Morocco a few years ago. Because I didn't want it on any surface it could be dirtied or stained, I hung it on the wall above my sofa. It's one of my favorite pieces of decor!
