While most of us still haven't gotten the 2nd gen iPhone, the Daily Mail reports that Apple will come out with an iPhone Nano in time for Christmas.
The Nano version of the extremely popular iPhone will be cheaper, plus it'll be designed forpay-as-you-go plans...
According to the Daily Mail, "The product will be launched in the UK at up to £150 for pay-as-you-go customers by O2, the mobile phone group owned by Spain's Telefonica. 'This will be a big one,' said an industry source."
Before you get all worked up though, these rumors are almost the same as a year ago, when a JP Morgan analyst claimed that Apple would be planning on launching a cheaper version of the iPhone in the 4th quarter of 2007. This was based on some liberal interpretations of Apple's patent applications.
With the new iPod Nano on the horizon, a new MacBook Touch in the works and Apple informing retailers that there is an iPod shortage, things are most definitely brewing over at Apple. There has to be no doubt that Apple is working on a smaller version of the iPhone, the trouble is that no one knows for sure when this will happne. via CrunchGear

Smaller? I have a hard enough time typing on the regular-sized version.
Rumours mention the use of a jog wheel for dialing instead of touch screen input, so perhaps that's the possible solution for navigating text-input for a smaller screen. It's hard second guessing Apple though...
I agree the typing would be harder, but the pay-as-you-go plan addition would be rather awesome (I use Virgin Mobile currently).
Still, £150 (almost $300!) for one that's half the size makes me wonder if the Daily Mail is just fooling around with Apple fans.
as much as i harbor a love for the iphone and all finger flicking features; I truly miss my nokia brick phone with interchangeable face plate i had in the mid 90's
matt mandredini,
me too!!!! I loved those Nokias. Before I got my blackberry I actually scoured eBay looking for the old Nokias, but was worried that with all the upgrading of data and voice systems that I may have trouble getting the old Nokias to work well...
I'm still waiting until they are able to tack on a decent sized hard drive to this (at least 60gb). In other words, the iPhone and the iPod Classic have to merge. I predict this will happen within two years.
