Mac fans who have been jealous of HP's TouchSmart line of All-in-One desktop PCs with touch, get ready for some drool stimulation. According to LOOPRumors, the Apple iMac line may be receiving an update in the form of a touchscreen 22-inch iMac.
THOUGHTS ON iOS VS OSX AND TOUCHSCREEN DESKTOPS IN GENERAL:
"The concept of a touch-enabled layer for iOS on top of the traditional Mac OS X was also raised earlier this year in a piece from The New York Times quoting a former senior Apple engineer. The engineer posed the possibility of an iOS layer as an alternative to a full touch-enabled Mac OS X due to the technical difficulties in making such a transition for Apple's Mac operating system."
We've had quite the positive experience using the HP TouchSmart in the past and can honestly say that doing away with keyboards and mice may sound like a risky endeavor, but by introducing natural input interfaces, we might be one step closer to removing tedious electronic clutter from our homes. However, there are many others out there that will probably disagree with this -- that multi-touch may be much less ergonomic than a mouse when using for extended periods of time, and, in actuality, may be a step backwards if done incorrectly.
