Oftentimes, the travel emails that flood my inbox are automatically deleted — no sense in tempting myself when I can't spare time off. But slap a photo of an intriguing interior in said email, and well, I can't help but take a peek. So was the case with Ruschmeyer's of Montauk, New York.
I'm always on the lookout for a good vacation spot — doesn't hurt when that good vacation spot boasts a "nautical camp" yet modern design close to the beach. One glimpse of the simple, fresh decor with a pop of color here and there and it instantly reminded me of another Montauk lodge I've wanted to check out. Turns out, Ruschmeyer's is brought to us by the same duo that gave us The Surf Lodge. Although this time around, the vibe is more summer camp over surf camp.
The owners were inspired by the property's original function back when it was first built in the 1950s — you guessed it — a summer camp. Given that, it's no surprise you'll find nineteen cabins instead of one main building. Also on the grounds are hammocks, picnic tables, bicycles, a fire pit and even a teepee. There's a restaurant and bar as well, and judging by the photos, a pretty cool disco too.
Ruschmeyer's was said to have opened Memorial Day weekend. If you happened to have spent the holiday there, let us know if it's worth the trip!

Shaw's Original Fir...
i want to go to there.
I'm sorry, but I just read "Camp-Inspired Lodging" aand I just don't see it. Surely you don't mean the mirror ball?
Does anyone know what that headboard in the first picture is called or who made it? I've seen a few online lately and I'm just in love with them!
Along with CocoChic, I'd love to know more about that headboard.
I just spent two nights there this past Sunday/Monday and absolutely recommend that you add it to your short list of getaways for the summer! Its glamorous summer camp with gourmet meals, picnics to the beach, Republic Dutch bikes to rent, midcentury Cousteau ish design and best...they not only let you bring your dogs - they pamper them too!
