There's kitchen remodeling —which requires all sorts of advance planning, wrangling budgets, and hiring contractors —and then there are the quick and easy facelifts you can do yourself. If the mood strikes you one week, and you suddenly can't take your ugly floor or countertop any more, try out one of these super inexpensive, off-the-shelf kits. For under $100, your kitchen can get a brand new look, often in just an afternoon.
Brittni of Paper & Stitch used some countertop coating to cover up the black laminate and make it a fresh white. It only cost $30 from Amazon (with free shipping) and her kitchen looks much brighter and cleaner now, especially with her new DIY backsplash.
This redone kitchen (also lead image above) over at Restyle it Right had a number of DIY projects, including concrete countertops and stenciled linoleum. To pull off this floor, buy a stencil essentials kit from Cutting Edge Stencils for $19.50, then choose the style stencil of your choice for an additional nominal amount (they start at $9.95).
Mimzy used a $30 one-part epoxy refinishing kit to redo her vintage cast iron sink, originally found on Craigslist for $30. After letting it cure for 72 hours, she put it to work, but found it chipped quite a bit. She recommends a heavier-duty 2-part epoxy product instead, which although harder to DIY, has better results. Here are two on the market today, one from Rustoleum for $26 and this one from ArmorPoxy for $100.
This kitchen from Dans Le Lakehouse got an entire budget makeover, but probably the biggest change was the cabinets, which got a Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations treatment. Even the dated linoleum pattern floor looks fresh again once paired with the newly gray cabinets.
