Name: Sacha James
Location: US
This is our 2-week-old little boy Sacha's room. We wanted a modern room that was still fun and livable.
We found the dresser on Craigslist and spruced it up with a little paint, new pulls, and steel legs. The bench is an old Norrebo IKEA shelf that we dissected and painted. Our awesome friend made the curtains and bench cushion.
The whale tapestry above the changing table is a scarf we picked up at Urban Outfitters. We mounted it on a frame and backlit it with rope light (this has been key for soft lighting during the late night sneak attack diaper changes). Most of the wall art is from Etsy. Overall, we are very happy with the room...now just the minor task of convincing Sacha to actually sleep in his crib.
Thanks Kai!

Beautiful room! I have a little boy named Sascha :) It's nice to see another boy with the name.

The content of the post talks about the art above the changing table. Can you include a picture of that? I would love to see a big picture image from the other corner to show the changing table art and i believe i see the bottom half of a dutch door in one pic, thats a great idea.
Adorable room! Just be cautious in a few months, as that plant has toxic parts.
I second the request for a picture of the whale tapestry above the changing table. The back lighting sounds intriguing but I am having trouble picturing what it looks like!
What an adorable baby! I love whales, too.
what is the paint color? THanks!
Welcome to the world Sacha! Cute room.
I have a whale art wall of my own...is it too much? I was wondering if it is getting cliched, but I mixed it up with a replica of a whale chart, a lithograph, a photograph of a whale sculpture, wave wallpaper that is framed, my own doodles.
I totally forgot to upload the tapestry....here is a link to the full album on Facebook.
The plant is a concern...still figuring out how to address it...
Thanks for the comments!

fiddle leaf fig tree leaves are toxic
Where is the rug from? I love the texture!
SO glad Frogfood posted that comment - it was my first panic response when I saw the Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree! Here's a post about it that includes a link to a list of other poisonous plants (that you will not want to have in a child's room): http://houseplants-care.blogspot.com/2007/11/fiddle-leaf-fig-care.html

yeah...again....we'll have to address the tree when it's more relevant to his level of mobility. For...now it's just pretty :)
The rug is actually 6 rugs taped together...they are from Target....and we're on sale for $17 per rug.
I like the room and the art a lot. Very clever rug.
But the art above the crib should be removed as soon as your child can sit up. That will be on their head in a second, especially with the precarious way it is hung.
Is that a half-door to his room? Love that! I'd love to see a picture of what's on the top half of that door - looks like a curtain?
@katieliz...yes it's our take on a dutch door. We have a 80lb bull dog, so we wanted to be able to close the door...but we also wanted to be able to hear the baby. So...we cut our door in half :) It's actually been great for the dog. He's been able to hear and get used to the sounds of the baby...without being in the room (he initially went a little nutso with the crying). It was also helpful in that we could stand at the door with the bottom closed with the baby...and pet the dog...which was a nice safe way of exposing the dog to the baby....For large untested pups...I totally recommend the dutch door. The fabric on the door is just left over fabric from the curtains thrown over the door...it's not even attached.
There are lots of tutorials on creating the dutch door online..but a tip...this is absolutely a two person job...I wouldn't attempt alone...you just end up causing yourself more work...and stripping screws.
Love the split door-great idea, might have to adopt it.
@GRACIAANN The wall color is Glidden Porpoise
@MARAUDINGCAT It seems like whether it's too much or not enough is going to be very much subjective...if it looks great to you...than that's right :)
@ JUDIAU We'll definitely have to rethink some things as he gets more mobile. Thanks for the comments everyone! It's a fun place to spend time with our little dude!
The room is very nice but the BABY is gorgeous. Enjoy this newborn time... everyone says it goes so quickly and it's all too true. Congratulations!
