Safer Earbuds

Earbuds scare us a little. Kids ages 6-19 are apparently experiencing more hearing loss. We're very protective of our hearing, but sometimes on loud subways, the volume can easily go up to a less than safe level. Luckily, we recently discovered some safe alternatives.

Safe 'N Sound has acoustic chambers "that direct the sound waves away from the eardrum by facing the speaker elements away from the ear canal." Sounds like a good investment at $30.

iHearSafe earbuds are great because they won't allow you to turn the volume up to a point that has been determined unsafe. They're only $19.99.

Sony and Philips have also come up with headphones that have more moderate volume levels or volume locks that parents can set.
