Names: Saj, Jez and their 3 children
Location: Toronto
Saj, Jez and their kids live in Toronto and sent us these photos of their new combo living, dining and library "great room". Saj writes: In combining our love of color, design, art and a blended family situation when we got married a little over a year ago, we were able to put together something which almost literally did provide therapy for us!
Our living/dining/library room (great room?) has really become a source of calm and order for our family - the kids find it easy to use and tidy as well. Our furnishings, while eclectic, went well together through a tight use of vibrant and interesting color combinations. We took color inspiration from a beautiful shawl from Egypt (used as a table cloth) and an orangey-glazed pottery picked up at a garage sale. While we were a bit hesitant to juxtapose orange with burgundy, we were thrilled with the result.
Thanks, Saj!

This looks great! you have an amazing view out of your dining area as well. I'm interested in knowing more about the pillow like fabric you have hanging on your one wall... is there history or a story behind it? I haven't seen something like that before.
I'm also glad to see a Toronto home on here, I always see everywhere else but where I live it seems... It's nice to be able to relate on location vs. space
isn't it spelled therapeutic?
nice place. love the rug!
I love the layout! Ya Toronto!
velexere that fabic on the wall is an ancient Indian art, I have one and I feel they are perfect for decorating an apartment as they don't require drilling nails. I have just taped mine up and it looks great
btw I love the paint and the rug, the colors r so perfect..I want this combination!
Chic and warm. Nicely done.
Stunning -- love how you juxtapose all the shades and tints of orange!
Great open use of space. How do you keep your whites so clean with 3 kids?
I'm loving how the variety of hues from the red family allow the eye to bounce around the room. Being too singular in shade would have rooted the room. I love the energy it has instead. Well done!
Really great--the white and dark brown really balance out the bold colors.
This is a great example of livable, attainable modern aesthetic! The use of popping colors (in this case with regards to both the beautiful rug and the orange wall colors gives way to more muted greys and earth tones in the flooring and furnishings. The display of the family library is something near to my heart, reflecting things of importance and displaying them as virtual art. Well done!
What a lovely space!
And I crave for windows like that in my home or apartment someday.
Lovely space. Thanks for posting.
Lovely indeed. I think I will add this apartment to my collection of reddish apartments.
Very, very nice! Great use of color. Simple clean lines, sophisticated and family-friendly.
Let's see more of these grown-up spaces, please and thank you.
I absolutely love this. A lot of the time, I find modern design rather dull and I don't like the tendency toward washed out or bright colors and Ikea-ish furnishings. The rich colors here mixed with the white upholstery and clean lines is so stunning, and anything but what modern design usually looks like! I love the tall bookcase and the beautiful rugs especially. Very dreamy!
This is such a warm, practical use of the space. Modern without being sterile, and proof positive that great design needn't go out the window once there are kiddos running around! :)
Can you post the name of the orange paint in the living area or was it a custom mix?
thank you everyone! And Lavender13, sorry, the paint was a custom color.
