We came to love Old Bombay. Despite often being overly done and totally the opposite of our stripped down, modern sensibilities, we appreciated that The Bombay Company was the only place to find some things that were just PERFECT.
Now we hear they are bankrupt, all stores are closing and sales will certainly start soon. ( Thanks, Leslie! Via Racked)

Whoa...I've always admired some of their off-the-wall pieces. I'm going to have to visit them soon.

I went by there on my way home from work b/c I'm searching for chairs. I was excited to find out they are going out of business. I'm sad that they will be closing because I love their furniture... but I'm happy because now I can finally afford it!
You all should keep in mind that this leaves 3600 people unemployed as soon as you buy up all of the things in their store that you would not even think about at full price so that they could've kept their jobs!
That's too bad. I got a nice mirror from them for $50. It's one of those stores where you won't always find something, but once in a while you'll find exactly what you need.
I've bought decorative accessories there over the years, but never furniture. I find that I just don't do "assembly required" anymore!
I think they looked like the place where one might buy "filler pieces" in world where you're just trying to keep up a very traditional look, and mainly have antiques.
I'd find it sadder if I ever had seen anything there that I thought I actually liked enough to buy, but I can't remember that ever having happened.
SadFace, it is sad that 3600 people will be out of a job, but you really have to look to their incompetent management for blame. Yes, they started out as a purveyor of traditional-style English furnishings, but times changed, the granny-style of the 80s-90s came and went, but they failed to evolve. In fact, I am surprised that they have lasted as long as they have. Even Banana Republic went from being a 1980s oupost for trendy safari-themed gear to being a ubiquitous contemporary fashion retailer.
My condolences. I loved Bombay Kids even though I don't have kids. They have really cute faux french antique inspired furniture in funky colors like pale pink velvet. Bring on the clearance sale!!
Sadface, Please understand I am sad that people are losing their jobs. That's always unfortunate for any "going out of business sale." Being a recent college grad, I can't afford their merchandise at full price. So it is a bittersweet end.
I'd rather buy at the Finest Linens and Things, they have better stuff that don't look and is so cheap in quality.
