We swooned over Sally's gray and yellow sitting room in the 2009 DC Design House, and have since enjoyed picking her vibrant but refined interiors out of magazines and blog posts. Now, thanks to Southern Living, we get to see what cool tricks the talented designer has put to work in her own home.
•1. Sally's living room is full of sophisticated neutrals and fresh takes on classic designs such as her signature Greek key. The decorative bamboo mirror above her sofa was a $25 craigslist find, and the white chairs are her parent's hand-me-downs, which she recovered in fresh white linen. The jute area rug adds texture and interest to the wall-to-wall carpeted room.
•2. Sally's traditional with a twist style is especially apparent in her striking entrance which she has swathed with rich chocolate brown wall paint, and punctuated with stylish gold, turquoise, and graphic print accents.
•3., 4. Sally's feminine bedroom is a fun mix of warm hues and preppy punches of pinks and greens. Vibrant and grown-up both at once.
We're definitely not the only ones digging her updated classic style: House Beautiful recently named her one of the Next Wave of interior designers to watch in 2010. Belated congratulations Sally!

Very traditional in feel, but I like her well-edited aesthetic.
I love the color choices but I'm dissapointed by the adherence to current trends. (Unless the recent popularity of that darned Greek Key motif all started with Ms. Steponkus.)
I like her place - It's traditional but with a fresh twist.
I'm also not seeing any Greek Keys (which I like) in these pix - So what's the big deal against them?
Love the look, and not an easy mix to get right.
And there is NEVER a wrong time or place for Greek Keys!
love the rug in the bedroom!
I think you guys mean Chinese lattice design, not Greek Keys. I don't see ANY Greek Keys.
Hi All--
greek key pattern can be spotted on the tape trim on the white drapes in the first pic (hard to see in this tiny pic but very apparent in the magazine article). I love the pattern, and think that whenever Sally uses it, she incorporates it so seamlessly that it never seems to scream trendy.
As always, Sallys great taste comes through. Always a pleasure to see her in my store in Georgetown and so happy to see her getting the press she deserves.
What a pretty bed! Although I think it might get to be a bit too pretty for me after a while. And my boyfriend would never go for it, haha.
I really hate skirted tables... but the rest is cute.
