Salvaged Wood Children's Furniture

Katrin Arens

When it comes to children's goods, natural wood seems to be the minority and primary-colored plastics have the definite lion's share of the market. That's why we're excited when we see furnishings for children that are as understated as these:

By the Italian designer Katrin Arens, this line of children's and nursery furniture is made of salvaged wood. There's definitely something poetic about the act of taking something old and making it into something for new life. So we love that aspect, as well as the fact that these pieces are simple in shape, material, and finish - no small feat in the world of children's furnishings!

There's a slightly Belgian appeal to the stripped-down designs and worn wood material. We're honestly surprised that Arens is from Italy (home of more frequently bold designs - think Peg Perego). We especially love the crib (final image) that can convert from a simple crib to a minimalist bed.
