Name: Samantha (5)
Location: Fairlawn, NJ
Color Inspiration: When I asked my sister-in-law to design a "big-girl" room for my daughter, she suggested an Alice in Wonderland theme because it's so fitting to Samantha's adventurous, crafty, clever and overall unique personality. The room was originally the bright yellow color of the stripes. My sister-in-law suggesting toning down that yellow by painting stripes of a lighter shade over it. All the ideas stemmed from the book's themes: the bright colored and abstract furniture, the chandelier, crown moldings, etc.
Color Inspiration continued: She and her husband hand painted the closet doors to look like four small doors complete with real hardware and skeleton keys. There are prints from the book framed above the bed, family portraits converted to look like paintings, a Cheshire cat decal, a real chess table for her night stand and of course a "looking glass."
Tip for Using Color: Take some risks. Color isn't permanent and can be changed up if you're not happy with your choices. I was apprehensive about using such bold colors and ideas, but I'm glad we went with it.
Colors Used: Yellow, Burgundy, Navy.
Thanks for your colorful entry Inessa and good luck!
