Name: Sam
Age: 21 months
Location: Highland Park, IL
We moved when Sam was nine months old and set out to create an uncontrived environment that was equally restful and fun, kid-friendly but not too twee or babyish, practical and whimsical. Although we have play space in our family room, we spend loads of time in Sam’s room, playing, snuggling, reading, singing and dancing, doing whatever the little man wants.
Throwing a giant map on the only wall unpunctuated by windows or doors might not have been the most sensible decision, but we fell for the idea after seeing it on Ohdeedoh. We put an IKEA Expedit shelf below the map.
Sam was a late walker, so we followed a PT friend’s recommendation, placing the best toys at standing level on the Expedit to motivate him. Worked like a charm. Because we are expecting twins this summer we moved our glider into their nursery and replaced it with the Dwell Fatboy that we scored at a crazy discount. Between that and the giant Jellycat sheep we have abundant soft seating for Sam, mommy, daddy and doggy. We hope that the books, toys and decor spark Sam’s imagination and sense of adventure.

Nomade Express Slee...
Love the Fat Boy. Can you let us know where & how you got the discount? We are having a new little one this summer and need some type of seating for our 22 month old.
Love the map too. We want one for our den. Would love to know where you got it!
Love this space! The colors and map are perfect for Sam to grow into.
Please, please share how you mounted the map to the wall...thank you!! Love the room!
LOVE!!! the map totally transforms the space and is sophisticated without being stuffy. Very fun room - would love to hang out on the sheep with you guys!
Oh my goodness!! This room is AMAZING! Love what you've done with it :-)
A lot of the sample sale sites for kids or with kid sections, The Mini Social, Gilt, One King's Lane, etc. have had FatBoy sales recently. Sign up for the emails and you should see one soon.
Love the map! What crib is that?
Such a nice and calming room. I never thought I would like brown walls, but you made it work with the right choice of furniture and accessories.
Love the map!
LOVE the map on the wall! Filing this way for inspiration for my son's big boy room!
Love the room and the color pallette is beautiful. Looks relaxing, modern and playful.
OOOOH, LOVE the map! Where did you find it?
Also, hooray for a room that shows a SAFE crib (no bumpers, etc).
Great job!
Hi all! Thanks for reading.
A few months ago the fatboy was listed on allmodern.com as a twilight brand discount for $50. The white parts show minor yellowing but nothing too noticeable. It is so comfortable and at that price it was cheaper than the various fatboy knock-offs. It might be worth calling and asking if they have any left in the warehouse.
The map is from National Geographic - http://tinyurl.com/33g4zby It ships in three panels. We mounted it with wallpaper paste and used painted molding for the frame.
The Park Lane crib and changing table are from the Baby Mod line, sold at Walmart. I generally don't shop at Walmart but it is great looking, well constructed and affordable. If you do an Ohdeedoh search you'll find lots of love for it.
I LOVE the way you've done this room and the simple sophistication of it all! We have the same sheets on our son's crib, which suddenly makes me feel a little more stylin'. ;-)
love the planet mobile- did you make it? great room!!
Congrats. Love the sideways Expedit. Wish we had the amount of space you guys do! We also have the BabyMod furniture and love it. My son Fionn's room was featured here on Ohdeedoh too! http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ohdeedoh/nursery-tours/nursery-tour-baby-daleys-roomtobe-093282 or visit http://roomforyoungones.com/nurseries/
The mobile is from Land of Nod. http://www.landofnod.com/family.aspx?c=1133&f=5402 Each planet hangs from its own tack, and when I saw the store display it was hung in a random cluster. We decided to convert the distance between planets to inches so that we could hang them linearly to scale. I guess that the tour could have been called "Sam's parents are nerds."
Jaime, I remember admiring Fionn's room. While Sam's room is not small by any stretch of the imagination, I think it looks larger than it actually is - 11x12'.
Love the rug, where did you get it?
Love the room! Who makes the activity table/box you have on the rug in the first photo? I'm looking for something similarly compact and modern.
The overstock.com rug is about five years old and the activity box is Baby Style from Right Start when they were liquidating in early 2009. The store has since reopened but I don't know if they have revived the Baby Style line. It looks like the HaPe discovery boxes are similar and I think that Educo makes one as well.
What a great room. What is on the wall next to the changing table?
The map is amazing, and room has such a calm and relaxed vibe to it. I love, love, love a room that can grow along with the child.
I also liked your tip about how to motivate your child to walk - that's brilliant.
mercury1009 - The silver thing w/all of the circles is a frame w/convex plastic from Urban Outfitters that I filled w/pictures of vintage tin robots. Above that is the Moon In My Room, which we love.

Are the baskets in the bookcase from Ikea too? I did not see them online.
This room is awesome, I'm totally using it as inspiration for my one year old's new room! I'm very late posting this question but I thought I'd give it a shot...does anyone know where the crib bedding is from?
Can you please share what color you used on the wall? I love it!!!!
The map is cool. My son (4) is totally obsessed by maps. Thanks for posting your pics so I can see the effect of having the map before I go there.
lucky kids that get such a great play room!
