What to do when you want to improve your new HDTV's sound, have a limited budget and live in a small space that you don't want to fill with large AV equipment? Soundbars, to the chagrin of more discerning audiophiles, are an easy, affordable, and often a more decor-friendly solution for viewers looking for a marked improvement over built-in speakers, but who don't want to compromise a less cluttered setup and who might be on a budget. This Samsung HW-C450 Soundbar Speaker is as slim as they come and it also sports a wireless subwoofer for an additional dimension for movie and gaming duty in the bedroom or small apartment.
The Samsung HT-WS1G Soundbar is about $50 more with similar features but a slightly nicer front panel design and 2" wider.
The Samsung HW-C450 Soundbar Speaker is in no way meant to really replace a true home theater system; 2.1 simulated surround sound just can't recreate what a 5.1 or more speakers can create for soundscapes. But if you've got a secondary television, live in a small apartment, are on a limited budget but want to upgrade your sound for general viewing and/or gaming, these minimalist soundbars are impressive for everyday use. Reviews from customers and other sources shine positive overall. Just note, the HW-C450 only comes equipped with 2 optical audio connections...no HDMI (they had to cut corners somewhere).
