Looking for a colorful San Francisco art piece for your walls? I literally stopped in my cable car tracks when I first spotted the work of artist Hilary Williams at the SF Renegade Craft Faire. I believe her art captures the city's spirited personality perfectly.Hilary started screen printing in college while attending CCA in Oakland and SF and has been creating fine art prints and mixed media paintings ever since.
Hilary has always been interested in her surroundings, which for most of her life, has been San Francisco. Here is what she has to say about the city and how it inspires her:
"I feel a real connection and love for it! It is also so picturesque and it is so easy to get beautiful images and be inspired while walking around its streets. I mainly get my inspiration taking a walk with my camera. My process begins with photographs usually. I then print those out and collage and alter them by hand creating a stencil layer which is then transferred onto a mesh screen where I print this image on to a limited edition print or mixed media painting. With my prints they are created with between 10 - 20 layers of printing, and the paintings are created with sewn fabrics, acrylic and screen printed layers."
You can find Hilary's current collection and upcoming showings on her website and it's also available at Secession Art and Design in the outer mission district.
Thanks Hilary for sharing your passion for San Francisco with us!
