Curious about alternative resources for building or renovating your home with green building material, using energy/water conserving technology, and furnishing it with items friendly to the environment? The FREE 4th Annual Alternative Building Materials & Design Expo is presented by the City of Santa Monica, and will take place on May 18-19, 2007 at Santa Monica Air Center (Barker Hangar), allowing the general public to intermingle with architects, designers, retail buyers, and government representatives, and over 100 exhibitors.

There will be various key speakers educating and promoting environmentally friendly solutions including:

Solar Energy Pavilion, presented by the City of Santa Monica: An extensive display on all aspects of the City's Solar program, kicking off this Spring. Many solar exhibitors that handle both residential and commercial projects will be on hand and a Keynote address will be given by
Angelina Galetiva, Chairperson of the World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE). Southern California Gas will be giving away energy-efficient waterheads.

Water Pavilion: Offering hands-on demonstrations and workshops involving low-water use sprinkler heads, simple water irrigation systems, sustainable landscaping – including solar fountains and wildlife options - and grey water systems. The City of Santa Monica will offer a $4 per sprinkler head rebate on-site with instructions.

An Ecological Footprint area, hosted by Sustainable Works – a non-profit environmental education organization – will allow attendees to chart their official ecological footprint. Energy Star, appliance and tax credit area

Most exhibitors will feature interior design and/or construction-related elements, from environmentally-sound wallpapers, non-toxic paint or clay options and bamboo across various applications to green roofs, insulation options, and pavers.
