- What I Love About My Small Home:
- This is actually the biggest place we've lived! It's intimate, but still roomy enough for us to have separate work spaces, which was a must when we were apartment hunting. We've got incredible light in the mornings and a side sun room/office that really helps bring the outside in. Also, the living/dining area makes a pretty mean dance floor when you clear the furniture away.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- It all started with coffee cups -- we had a lot of them. We downsized two years ago. We downsized again this summer. When we moved into our current place, we made a rule: buy a coffee cup, give away a coffee cup. The rule has spread. We've tried to apply it to everything in the house -- it's a great way to keep the level of "stuff" in check.

Diagonal sofa in a small space - that takes some guts
Terrific space. Warm and inviting--a good modern-rustic balance. Especially dig the Valentine typewriter, kitty, and banjo.
I wholeheartedly agree with the above comment: the rug brutally caught my eye!
It looks like a neat place. It lacks a bit of individuality as far as I am conerned, but its neatness makes up for that. It must be relaxing to live there!
I think both the rugs in this space is a little odd. The one under the dining table is too small and then I'm wondering why the rug in the living room isn't under any furniture, even the coffee table, it's like it's floating out in space. Maybe switch them. But I do love all the red touches throughout the home.
Although it's not my aesthetic, I like it because it's warm and inviting. I like the cactus, couch, and CUTE cat!
The aesthetic is nice, but I think the living room would be improved by pulling the furniture away from the walls.
Sara & Max, love the look of your home, it is spacious. The colors are lovely and love the fluffy cat on the back of the couch, he is too cute!!
Wow... that is a gorgeous Valentine typewriter you've got!! ;)
love all of the wood and the open feeling the place coveys. no clutter and arbitrary things impacting the space. the other small cool contestants seem to struggle with making their abodes museums for single-white male ikea shoppers.
i love the view through the windows; i love the beautiful cat:)
and every colour of the flat... congrats!
The furniture in the living room are strangely pushed to the sides (and the rug is left alone in the middle). The rug under the dining table is too small.
But hey it works for you guys, so I'll stop criticizing.
Hello from a neighbor in Monticello, IL!!
Another vote for the typewriter but the braiser on the stove ( Le Creuset) put it over the top.
The Le Creuset is a question.
Thanks for the kind comments! JUKESGRRL--it's not a Le Creuset but rather a vintage Colorcast found in a thrift store in Indianapolis.
Our cat (Thorny) appreciates all the compliments ;)
I love the plants in the dining area. And the chairs!
I enjoy the overall vibe here, which is relaxing. I think it dances on the edge of feeling like it lacks personality, but it comes down on the side of carefully curated. I know would experience a feeling of relief walking in the door. Also, I'll bet that cat has an awesome personality.
Love the colors and the thrift store flourishes. What's the paint color on the living room walls? I just want to bask in there!
Love the hominess of this one--seems like actual people live here. A little baffled by the comments claiming a lack of individuality? Do you mean lacking in IKEA and a large photo montage wall?
Definitely a favorite!
Love this, great that it's something different! I too am confused by the comments claiming lack of individuality...not sure what those people are looking for?
This apartment lends truth to the old adage "less is more". The creativity makes one feel the warmth of the owners. No stuffiness here, just aaaahhhh. Thorny is an added bonus, adorable :). This one gets my vote.
My small space has a diagonal sofa too, sometimes it just works better with the wall space available. :)
Great space!
I like it. It's simple, uncluttered and cute. I love the furball on the back of the couch (I'm talking about you Thorny). It's a nice simple, home with lots of personality.
