Now that Thanksgiving is over, it's time to properly decorate for Christmas. Canadian House & Home celebrates the holiday house of designer Sarah Richardson, from the November 2010 issue. The combination of rustic antiques and modern patterns makes this country house the quiet, cozy recluse that Sarah Richardson craves.
The 12-foot Christmas tree shown in the photo was cut down from Sarah's property by her husband. Sarah enjoys mix-and-match schemes in pattern and textiles, furniture combinations and table settings.

White Enamel Four-P...
I love Sarah Richardson's country house... really I do! .... but these images are so over exposed...
If I every found my self with an invitation to her home I could give her the house tour! But really I love the house....really....
Sarah never fails to impress. She's so down to earth and down-right talented ;) I adore her family's farmhouse, especially the way she decked it out with Christmas charm!
I love Sarah Richardson. That house looks so got-dang cozy.
This house has my favorite dining room of all time. That russet paper-backed wall-covering, the mix of high and low, the window seat... you could not PRY me out of that room on a snowy day!!
errrr. nup. too done. and the idea of a 'holiday house' irritates me anyway....
I think you meant to say "refuge" not "recluse."
Sarah ROCKS!
Now THAT is what Christmas looks like. She's awesome!
This house was the project on her show a couple of years ago ... she renovated it room by room including a huge addition. I guess she decided to live in it instead of sell it? I personally preferred it as it was in the show, without all the Christmas stuff.
What a beautiful home. Looks to warm and welcoming...
Sarah
I love the farm house and think that is a lovely way to spend the winter. Your little girls are really getting big. I think I would spend all my time in that wonderful kitchen.
Ha, @ roundabout - I didn't notice the use of recluse 'til you pointed it out, but now I have this awesome mental picture of Sarah R., looking all put together, cozied up to a hermit.
What's wrong with me that I find something about her really annoying?
Pretty picture, but it is NOT time to decorate for Christmas. It's time to decorate for Advent.
Christmas is a long ways away. First we anticipate, then we rejoice.
Just an advent wreath and a partial nativity scene (the three wise men can be travelling all over the house, and no babe yet).
Cozy yes, but man those curtains are tacky! Sorry!
Love everything about her! This house was my favorite "Sarah's House" season.
"Recluse." I do not think it means what you think it means.
mjs7640 -- You are not alone; I too find her annoying.
As for the house, it doesn't quite do it for me. I've seen some amazing homes in Canadian House & Home who are not done by decorators as famous as Sarah, but which feel more authentic and interesting. Personally, as I looked through it, I kept wishing I were looking at a winter retreat designed by Ilse Crawford instead.
@sockmuppet Lol...
I love Sarah but I'm definitely not feeling this at all. Way too cliched. I expect more from a designer of her caliber.
And Rachel, please change the word from "recluse" to "refuge" as suggested by others.
Geez, what a bunch of grouches! (GRINCHES?) The house is adorable and the decorations are adorable and the KIDS are adorable! I love Sarah Richardson's style and insane attention to detail. Just looking at this place cheered me up!
