- What I Love About My Small Home:
- I love that my apartment has large windows and tons of natural light. While it is a small space, I think I've positioned the furniture to function as separate zones while allowing it to still feel open. Trying out different furniture arrangements has been fun and the space has really inspired me to be creative -- the fact that it's a small space makes it easy to change things around whenever I get bored!
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Lack of storage and creating the feeling of different living areas have been my biggest challenges. I wanted my "bedroom" area to feel cozy but I didn't want to position the bed against the wall. I ended up hanging curtains to provide a sense of structure and visually anchor the bed. In order to maximize storage, I used vertical shelving wherever I could, and I keep my favorite possessions on display.

Would you like to come help me design my apt? This is my favorite submission so far. Love the bed and the jewelry staging area. Would love to know where you got your busts, are they the velveteen ones from craft stores?
I love this, I was planning to do something similar around my bed because unfortunately my desk in in my bedroom and I want separation. I have a question, what color paint did you use behind the bed?
This apartment shows more than anything else that more often than not, it's not small spaces that are the most challenging, it's layout. This is a perfect example of a small space that is well-planned.
I guess I would have tried to switch the bedroom and living areas, but still, it looks great.
this looks so GRACIOUS!
Wouldn't have dared this color with this size... but it works perfectly.
This is fabulous! I love the bed curtains, the moody blue walls, the white accents and neutral furniture. What color is that blue and where did you get your coffee table? I love them both!
I don't know if it's just the angle of the photo, but the floor lamp in front of the couch looks really awkward.
Weird having the bedroom next to the kitchen, although looking at your floorplan and furniture, I can see why you did it that way. You made a great use of space, and it's very cute!
You have created an amazing home!
Beautiful. What color paint did you use behind the sofa? I've been thinking about a light gray accent wall, but your living room is making me think twice!
Love that blue wall. What's the color?
That bedroom setup is lovely, and the curtains, along with the bench at the foot of the bed, give it a great built-in look. Wow!
I really love your space. It's light and fresh and not hampered by the apt size. The bed is amazing! I love how you did your jewelry on the actual jewelry displays your get from the craft store. So much more attractive than hanging from the wall on hooks, like mine. I know what I'm buying htis weekend!
LOVE your space, ironically I just printed a very similar image to what you have above your couch to hang above my bed. So peaceful. I really love your cocktail table, do you mind sharing where it's from?
Nice. I didnt realize it was a studio until I saw the blueprint. The thing about studios is people often find their butts on your bed (which I hate)...but you have provide a huge bench to counter that. Nice.
EMILIE S: Jewlerysupply.com in Roseville California has those bust. Just make sure you read the description for size.
You did what I wish I could. Make minimal, look luxurious at the same time. Love it.
Thanks everyone for the lovely comments!
@Emilie S - The jewelry displays are from Michaels.
@shermi - Thanks, I will try to track down the name of the paint color behind the bed for you. It's more of a purple in person - I'm really happy with it!
@LSUgrad03 and chickychicky- Thank you! The blue color is Plumage by Martha Stewart. It has a hint of green and a lot of depth in person for being such a dark color - I love it! The coffee table is a craigslist find that I spray painted gold (originally from Crate&Barrel).
Sarah, this looks rad. I will pay you to design my condo. You have amazing style, and a great sense of making the space functional. nice work
Gorgeous
I love that bed and how you did the curtains. I can see one side of the curtains drilled into the wall. How did you do the other side? Where is the bed from? Great job!
This place is great. Good job decorating! The bed really captivates me. I LOVE canopies. Nice touch with the roses in a fish-bowl-like vase!
I am dying to know about the photograph of the water above the couch and the other above the side table next to the kitchen??!!!! Who? Where??? Please!!!!???
Elegant, almost posh, nice for a woman's place [not girly]. Lower the living room art a few inches. ; >.
Thank you!
@alainnotebook - The curtains are mounted from the ceiling on all four corners. It's hard to see because the brackets are white. I used the basic ikea hooks that can be mounted to a ceiling or wall. The bed is just a tufted headboard that I made out of linen fabric...I'm flattered that you thought I purchased it!
@Cryptonomicon - These are both photographs that I took and had enlarged. The one in the living room is of open water in The Gulf of Mexico and the one in the bedroom is of tide pools in La Jolla, California.
Do you sell your photography??
This is a really luxe small space -- you've created enough space for art and jewelry displays, paired with intense colors and dark drapes. Love!
I'm absolutely enamored by your space! As I move into my first studio apartment I'm using your space as a "blueprint" of sorts to help guide me. I love the relaxing, yet luxurious look of your apartment. It's so warm and welcoming. I would love to see how you carried over the design aesthetic into the bathroom. By the way, your bed is divine! Was convinced you purchased the headboard from West Elm. Awesome!
i love your space...
