- What I Love About My Small Home:
- I love that it's a stand alone house in the heart of East Austin but that it's under 600 ft. I have nicknamed it the "Dollhouse" and I still feel like I get all the perks of living in a private home with a porch and back yard but with what I consider a luxury of smaller interior space to decorate and maintain. I feel less tied down by stuff and enjoy my time in relaxing in my home.
- Three of My Best Tips and Tricks for Creating a Successful Small Space::
- 1. Declutter
I recently read the book "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying of Up" by Marie Kondo and her philosophy on decluttering has completely changed my space. Just like with the size of my house, I have learned that less is more with the amount of stuff I keep inside. I also keep a small capsule wardrobe of only 35 items including bags and shoes so I don't worry about closet and storage space.
2. Light & Air
I keep beautiful lamps and lift up blinds all around my house to welcome as much light in my home. I also keep large plants throughout the house so the rooms can breath. I like the airy nature feel about my home.
3. Stay Present
Try to stick with the present moment in your current space. If a couch is too big, switch it out for something that fits your smaller home. I use craigslist to find pieces to match whatever space I'm in.
