- What I Love About My Small Home:
- I love that my tiny space is entirely mine - home. Every square foot of it points to one more enlightening piece of my story. I've gotten to live in this home for almost a year now. It has afforded me with a sweet space that I can recenter and regroup from a long day's journey in the work world as well as rejoice from another well had adventure. Certain qualities of my space that I particularly love are: that it offers the open space of a studio apartment, but with a bend to it (it has an L shape layout). This way I can enjoy being in my 'room' without thinking that I am still in the 'kitchen'! I also enjoy all the generous cabinet and counter top space the kitchen has to offer. The hardwood flooring. The sliding barn door entrance to the bathroom. And finally - the whiteboard closet doors! How neat are those?!
- Three of My Best Tips and Tricks for Creating a Successful Small Space::
- Don’t be afraid to rearrange every once and a while! I am constantly moving smaller items around throughout my space to create a new look. I add here, take away there, and rearrange small areas elsewhere. I even switch around my furniture placement sometimes!
Gather pieces for your home that reflect your life story. I love that my canopy bed is the same one that I begged my Mother to have as a small child and slept in while growing up. My coffee table is a bench my sisters and I used as kids. My door bookshelf is a summer project I got to accomplish with my Dad. And my artwork reflects stories of where I’ve been or pieces I’ve painted myself!
Think about how to use your small space for the biggest impact. I found that I had too many books accumulating within my space and decided to invest in a pine bookshelf. I made it my own by staining it a ‘green tea’ hue and finally loading it, and opening up a lot of cluttered floor space scattered with books.
