Your Favorite Thing About Your Outdoor Space: It is a little piece of heaven, a great spot for coffee in the morning while we watch the ships and sailboats on the Hudson and the raising of the World Trade Center. In the warmer months there are firework displays happening every week (never know when they will happen, but they do). And, of course, stargazing...

...I face South, have a fabulous view of lower Manhattan and the Hudson River and have sunlight all day. Typically, I come home from work and open the door till bedtime and leave the door open on all weekend. I also have two cats, Henry-George and Tom, so I put chicken wire around the railing as a safeguard. Had a few scary moments when they jumped up on the railing (they no longer go there now).

Biggest Design Challenge With This Space: This is a micro-mini space. I live in a Co-op and what I can do is limited. I cannot have curtains, an umbrella or anything that might fly off; I cannot have more than four guests on the balcony at a time; we cannot paint the outside walls, floor, ceiling or change the color of the door. The air conditioning takes up a large portion of the wall and leaks water, so I put down teak slat decking that channels the water underneath.

Tips for Creating a Great Small Outdoor Space: I love the smell of Mint, Rosemary, Basil and Lavender and I have two containers of herbs. I also plant colorful flowering plants every year. Sometimes simplicity says it all.

Thanks, Saundra, and good luck!
