If you are unable to either fly or levitate, a staircase is a great way to get from one level of your home to another. But a staircase is also, it turns out, a great place to spell out a message, be it on the treads or on the risers. These staircases all have a little something to say, which is sure to make ascending to the second floor a more contemplative experience.

Above: Led Zeppelin lyrics are especially appropriate for a staircase, as seen in Penny, Petra & Sydney's Santa Barbara home.

An inspiring (perhaps) message on the stairs of Singapore restaurant &MADE, spotted on Retail Design Blog.

Pretty straightforward, and entirely appropriate. From Caperace.

True. I bet this staircase mural took a lot of work. Spottted on Mi Casa es Feng.

The message on the risers of this French home is a quote from Ce que je crois by Louis Pauwels. Spotted on Style Me Pretty.

For those who don't like to sleep much, or who just enjoy being reminded of their own mortality, there's this message from a home by Olson Kundig Architects, via Apartment Therapy.

And finally, from Houston Lifestyles & Homes, here's a clever idea for people who change their minds a lot... chalkboard paint on the stairs! (On the risers of course, on the treads might create a serious safety hazard. Also, chalk on your feet.) This way, you can change stairs as often as you change mantras.
