I love that scene in Sex and the City after Big has painted his bedroom wall "China Red." He asks Carrie to stay the night and she responds no, "because, dear friend, you and I are like that red wall. It's a good idea in theory, but somehow it doesn't quite work."
It's tough to pull off red in a modern, elegant way. It often looks too traditional, too romantic, too mod, or sometimes a little too Goth. Sure, I have cheery splashes in my kitchen but I've always been hesitant to add such a bold, energetic color in other rooms (I've been more open to its pink and orange cousins). For the same reason I shy away from red lipstick, I shy away from red décor--it just feels a little too much. I want my small space to feel chill and relaxing, not loud and fiery.
These interiors, however, convince me otherwise. They give red a whole new rep. Here, it doesn't scream for attention; it's just fun to be around. How about you--are you giving red some love in your home?

White Enamel Flatwa...
I'm sitting on a bright red sofa.
Looking at the red wall in my entrance. (Donald Kaufman Color. Awesome.).
And yes, I've been known to wear bright red lipstick.
I should say -- the wall color (DKC-17) actually does feel "chill and relaxing". The entrance floor is black cleft slate, and the baseboards are natural squared-off walnut (oiled; no shine), and it marries beautifully.
The sofa is a bright red Ligne Roset Togo; it's fun and bright, not loud and screeching.
I love bright accents in general and a little red goes a long way.
*sigh* I miss Domino.
Very warm.
I have bits of red in my home. I am coveting (shame!) that awesome headboard. it would go great with me red/blue/yellow/white Scandinavian country bedroom decor :)
I am desperate to find true red (not burgandy) bedding. Does anyone have any suggestions?
i love red
Years ago, Calvin Klein did a beautiful bedding set where he combined a brownish red (cinnabar) with a bright red; it was amazing.
More recently, they had a red hued set called "Twill Stripe", which was also very nice (although not as stunning). It has probably been discontinued though.

Still, they will probably come out with another red bedding set eventually, and they do a really nice job with them. Layering different shades and textures is important, because otherwise they can resemble red sating sheets a bit too much.
Another option would be the red twill versions (they have 2 patterns) at Matteo Home.
Also, check out John Robshaw and Les Indiennes; they do beautiful red patterned bedding.
(really, my favourite colour is periwinkle)
I recently renovated my entrance. White walls, a black IKEA shelf and red IKEA shoe cabinets, red pipes from the central heating, red clothes hanger, red and white DIY clock with Japanese numbers and some red branches in a vase, i painted my self.
Sometime soon I will paint a wall red. I love this color and finally I am not ashamed to use it inside my apartment
I am currently doing work on these reforms at the entrance to our office, your ideas are helping me a lot, I have more ideas now to make, as always your blog is rich in ideas. greetings and thank you very much.
Ranster, Crate and Barrel had some red bedding over the winter season, including a red Marimekko set.
In all the style phases I've been through, red has been my constant. It's the one color that truly feels like "me," and I can't imagine not having any in my home (and closet!).
@Erikakn Take a look at this: http://www.dominomag.com/
They're releasing a special issue! Spread the word! Maybe if enough people buy it they'll bring it back.
love the bench
mmm I so want red dining chairs like above. I've been tempted to try it with cheap red ikea chairs to see if I love it enough.
We had a room with minimal bleak light that brightened up only when I stuck my husband's bright red sweater in it, so we went with lots of red, including a red velvet couch, yellow-accented red carpet, lighter reddish grasscloth wallpaper, and peach ceiling & trim. Also has some major black accents plus bookshelves and the TV, so it's not just all about the color scheme.
I also love red, and we have a fair amount of it in our home. It's like my neutral!
I love red. I usually have touches of red in every room except the bedroom. It's a bit too stimulating for sleep.
I have a red sofa (From Ikea) paired with white coffee table in the living room. I also have a red bench paired with black dining table and chairs. I love red ...a wall may be going a little too far but I definitely love red accent pieces paired with charcoal grey, black or white.
The bright red Hoosier in our kitchen is my favorite piece of furniture.
I love my red traditional-romantic-mod-goth studio apartment! My only regret is that the ceiling is still white.
Thank you for your help. Mschatelaine, a red matteo duvet would be my fantasy but can't seem to find the one you are talking about. Do you have any further clues?
Thanks again!!
Love the Sex and the City reference, that was hilarious.
