Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me - I've been searching for the shadow boxes shown on page 40 in the Real Simple magazine, May 2007 (yes 2007). Does anyone know where I can find similar ones?
Also, I have about twenty Barbie doll handmade clothes made by my grandmother who raised me and has since passed on. She spent hours and hours making these beautiful clothes of all types - formal dreses, cascual clothes. They are amazing, and I've kept them in a box since the 1960's. I am generally not the Barbie doll collector type of person :-), but I really want to somehow display the clothes and thought maybe a shadowbox would be best? I'm not creative at all. Any thoughts/ideas? Maybe I could get a series of three boxes and put an outfit in each with a picture of her or something? Any ideas would greatly be appreciated as well as any shadow box suggestions. Thanks!

I couldn't find my 5/07 copy, but just about any custom framing shop can make you whatever shadow box you need. You'll just need to make sure you get a frame with a deep profile and they're bound to have plenty of choices. You'll need acid-free matting and UV protective glass to help keep the outfits from deteriorating and fading, respectively.

There are also a number of online frame sites that will make what you want based on your specifications and ship it to you, but they're not cheap.

Target also has a selection of shadow boxes on their website but the frames are quite blah, but getting their frames and then spending the money on the glass and matting could save you some money if that's an issue. The frame shop will sell you just the glass and matting cut to size without a frame to fit frames bought elsewhere.
